I'd buy Plague of the Dead  and the second book Thunder and Ashes. After you've read book one you'd want definitely book 2. :-)

Another not mentioned choice would be Brian Keene's The Rising and City of the Dead. Both are quite good and belong together. :-)

I haven't read any of the books you listed (Most are on my wishlist)  but I would definitly vote for Brian Keene.  The rising, city of the dead, dead sea were all great!   I read World War Z, it was good, I enjoyed it , but it was not a page turner.  I would love to know what you decide to get and if it was good.  Have fun picking one out.

Ok looks like Im leaning towards Plague of the Dead! Thanks for the suggestions:) I have read Brain Keenes books and also World War Z(I think Im the only person on the  planet that didnt like WW Z-LOl)  AT our library you can request books from other libraries in the same state and %90 of the zombie books I want to read(or any zombie books for that matter!) are nowhere in the system so its either wait for them here or buy them:(

I have only read one of those books listed (they are all on my wl).  I would vote for Down The Road: A Zombie Horror Story .  It's one of the first ones I've read and thought it was pretty good.  There is a second book as well.  I have it but haven't read it yet though.

Matthew, Wet Work was written by Phillip Nutman.  I have it on my TBR pile right now.

I liked the Zombie trilogy this author put out.  Monster Island, Monster Nation, and Monster Planet.   He's also written some vampire books that I liked as well.

I like my zombies to be the George Romero-isque type.  The mindless shambling creatures that travel in giant herds driven solely on the primordial instinct to feed.  And I like the world they wander in to be ZPAW (zombie post apocalyptic world).  It's the only horror genre that scares me.  I think it's the "nowhere to run, nowhere to hide with only broaded-up windows and stealth for protection" that gets me going.  But for some reason thinking-talking zombies break the illusion for me.

Anyhow I'd vote for Day by Day Armageddon.  I read the journal/blog while it was still freely available at the author's site and loved it enough to buy the book.  I thought WWZ was disappointing.  "Plague of the Dead" is good with a "28 Days Later" twist to the zombies.  I didn't care much for "Down the Road".  Brian Keene's books are good but too "magicky" with talking zeds for my taste, same with Wellington's "Monster Island" trilogy; which I liked better because only 2 or 3 zombies were smart in that trilogy.

I also really loved Autumn by David Moody.  I think if you google it, you'll find that the author's site has the first Autumn book free online in several formats (if you can handle reading a book on the computer monitor)

I love the genre, but good zombie fiction is hard to find.

WWZ has been my favorite so far. Day by day armegeddon was sweet, i think. I didn't like the rising though. I didn't like that the zombies were intelligent and the premise of infection wasn't very believable. I'm disappointed that zombie books as a whole are all about gore and shock factor though. obviously that's pretty important, but I think that movies deliver something unspoken that the writers haven't quite caught on to.
