This is an older book, a sweet engaging English mystery. Not as complex as Agatha Christie, but 140 pages of interesting mystery. A man no one liked is murdered, and there are 7 suspects, each with good reason to want the fellow dead. It's unlikely you will be able to guess the killer. This is one of the author's early books, originally written as a serial in a publication.

I discovered Allingham when one of her books came through the thrift store where I volunteer. I decided to give her a chance and was I ever glad I did. Her books were written in the early 20th century and were acclaimed. I've read most of her works since then.

But this one was a hard one to come by, as it was never released as a novel during her life time. It was her first novel, but was serialized in a newspaper. Allingham never got around to working it into a separate book, and it was her sister who finally did so.

It's a short work and I double dare you to guess the killer before the end. Oops, did I just give it away?
