I won an ARC of Jo Goodman's new book The Price of Desire, due to be published in September, and it just arrived today! Ahhhh...it's so shiny. I'm kind of strange, but I love the smell of a new book, especially one that I have been anticipating and get to read a month and a half before it's published! ;-)  I'm only a few pages in, but it's very good so far. Goodman has yet to disappoint. I grabbed If His Kiss Is Wicked off the library's new book's shelves on impulse a few months ago, and was delightfully surprised at how sophisticated the writing was. The plot was really engaging also. I think I've collected all the books she's published since, and although her older books are not quite up to her more recent releases, she always can be depended upon for a good story. Any other Goodman fans here? Just wanted to share my excitement. :)

Thanks, Willa. :) I think Goodman doesn't have as wide a fanbase as she deserves. What was her first book that hooked you?

I have a drawer full of her books; everything except for this new one & I think one old one that's on my WL... and I've still only read 3 of them:P  If His Kiss is WickedMy Reckless Heart, and My Steadfast Heart.  They were pretty good.  Not fantastic enough to make me go crazy on her & start reading her books non-stop, but enough for me to hang onto what I have and keep collecting them over the last several months.  I'd have bailed on her and unloaded all of them if those 3 had been stinkers:P

I'm a big Jo Goodman fan - A Season To Be Sinful is one of my all-time favorites, as are the other 2 in the Grantham series, One Forbidden Evening and If His Kiss Is Wicked. I liked the Hamiltons, Thorne Brothers and Compass Club series too. Her writing is complex and layered and truly wonderful. "Sophisticated" is another good description.

I just started the McClellan series with Crystal Passion, which I didn't like quite as much as her other books - I think it's earlier than the Grantham series. I'm looking forward to her new book!!

I'm currently reading her Compass Club series. I just finished book # 2, Everything I Ever Wanted, today. So far I'm enjoying this series. I read If His Kiss Is Wicked based on reviews here in the L&R forum and was not disappointed, then a few months ago my local UBS was going out of business and I was able to pick up several of her books for not much $$. Now I'm working on getting the books to complete the different series. I really like Jo Goodman's writing style and the sense of humor of her characters, at least in the books I've read so far.

I'm with Kim. I'm collecting Goodman. Can't say I'm a fan yet, because I haven't gotten to her yet, but I know I will be. I totally agree, though, Goodman is not very well-known. If His Kiss is Wicked seemed to have gotten a lot of attention and maybe better marketing than before, but she is still a buried treasure in my opinion.

I started with My Steadfast Heart but I think Wild, Sweet Ecstacy was the first one that really grabbed me. Then A Season to Be Sinful and its follow-ups.

I stayed up to the wee hours of the night reading The Price of Desire, and I'm about half way through.  I kept turning off the light and trying to sleep, then turning it back on 15 minutes later to read another few pages. :P The heroine is unusual, and her interactions with the hero are intriguing. I can't guess what will be happening next. The setting also brings to mind another one of my favorites by another author - Devil in Winter. I would definitely recommend this new one...it's up there with If His Kiss Is Wicked, maybe even surpassing it a little. Since IHKIW I've been reading whatever Goodman book captured my interest first, starting with Sweet Fire, then moved onto My Steadfast Heart, My Reckless Heart, Forever In My Heart, and More Than You Know. Although I really enjoy Goodman, I find I have to temper her with other authors inbetween, but I guess that's true with reading too much of any one author's work. I haven't read any of the Compass Club series yet, but I think I will set in on those soon . Her heroines grow stronger (it's a must that I have to like the heroine to enjoy the story - meaning no whiners, no TSTL, etc), and her heroes become less overbearing and cold, and just....cool. :) Anyway, enough of my fangirling...I'm off to read some more.

I'm also a big fan of Goodman. I've read most of her series of books with my favorites being the Dennehy Sisters and my favorite of those being Only In My Arms. I always love a good story of "girl leaves convent, meets hunky cowboy  and sometime later". Well you know the rest. or you think you do.

Wow, what a coincidence I've just discovered Jo Goodman and I'm totally hooked.  I can't believe how underrated this author is because she is easily one of the best historical romance writer out there! I'm on #2 and #3 of the Compass Club series! :) I just finished If His Kiss is Wicked and A Season To Be Sinful.
