So what did everyone think?  I finished the book earlier in the week and I was very disappointed.  I've been reading others feel the same but many made the comparison to LKHs Anita Blake.  While I think it's the worse Sookie book to date,  I don't see what everyone is talking about in regards to the LKH thing.  Maybe the relationship w/ Eric?  And on an outside chance her conflicted feelings for Bill?

I didn't like how the faerie plot point was tied up...just seemed too quick.  Killing off Claudine just pissed me off..what was the point of announcing she is pregnant and then killing her off on the next page?????  Even the Quinn exchange just seemed thrown in there with little point.   There were a 100 plot points yet I didn't feel like I was on the edge of my seat in reading in.  Why introduce something to just tie it up in a few pages w/ no drama?  Then all the details that were wrong!  Claudia/Claudette, who killed who and that her GF and Uncle were twins..that was covered before!  Where was the editor!?!?

I felt the book was sloppy but I still don't see AB connection.

I think it is just that the mood has changed.  This one ended very numb and bleak.  Too quick of a resolution and too bleak.  Not typical for CH at all.  A let down from what I expect.  Of course, my expectations are very high for CH.

Just like a lot of my disappointment with LKH is the difference in the feel of the books.

But I really feel that CH has not let us down nearly as much as LKH has.  While this is NOT my favorite of her books, I still liked it.  Just good, not great.  And I expect great from this author.  Hope she recovers her writing mojo.  Sloppy is a good word of it.  Maybe distracted?

This was definitely my least favorite of her books.  And I agree that the Claudine thing was just wrong.  If she was going to die there was no reason to throw in the part about her being pregnant.  I can only hope that CH gets back to herself in the next book.

I was thinking about the Aurora Teagarden series that Charlaine Harris wrote.  At the end of about the 4th book, I think, something really bad happens.  It is bleak and dark and really sad, like Claudine dying in the fairy war.  And Tray dying.  I loved him as a character.  And then in the next book she gets back on track.  I love that she varies the mood and color of her novels.  I liked this one.  I was wondering what was going on with the fairies and now I know.  I was wondering if Eric and the new bosses from Las Vegas were working out and now I know.  I now am waiting to find out about Bill.  And the little nephew.  And what is going on with Sam.  I think the were's coming out so to speak was a little short changed by the Fairy war.  I wonder what is going to happen with them.

Too much covered too little?  Now that does sound like LKH.  But as long as CH does not continue this bad habit, I'll be very forgiving.  Years of happy reading are not destroyed by just one book.  And Dead and Gone wasn't bad.  Just not up to the high standards I have for CH.

LKH had several that needed severe editing before I got really pissed.

The Claudine thing killed me.  Oh yes Sookie I'm pregnant and knitting booties for my baby.  Oh let me step out into the hall since Eric is coming...opps I'm killed!  WTF was the purpose of that whole scene.  Okay killing her off for whatever reason I get....but to do it that way????  My only hope is that maybe she did live and it was a way of GGD wisking her off and no one knowing about it.

i finished the book last night.  i didn't even realize Claudine *was* dead until i read this thread, and had to go back and re-read that part.  the way Niall said 'gone to the Summerlands', i just figured that meant she'd gone back to the fairy lands to heal.

but yeah, there was a little bit about a lot of things, so nothing got covered in much depth, and it was a bit disappointing.  i hope we do get Sookie spending time with her little cousin in the next book.

I still love CH, but the last two books have been a little disappointing.  The last one seemed like a bunch of short stories loosely tied together as a novel.  I like this one more, but yeah, there are things that I didn't like.  The whole Claudine thing is just wrong.  I too am wondering if she is just being hidden.  I also agree, the Quinn thing seemed out of place too -

I still love her books and the characters, so it would take a lot to make me stop reading her

I think it was definately darker and a lot of action.  But I still liked it.  I ended up reading it in one day I couldn't put it down.  I'm definately sad about Claudine, but then again, not all characters are going to live.  Otherwise it will make for a boring world.  Though I'm sad to see her go.  I like the turn with Bill.  I was so upset about how his character was ruined I guess.  I liked him until out of the blue he changed.  I like how he's trying to regain her trust.  I like that we got to learn a little more about Erik's past.  I think there was more likes than dislikes in this book.  Still love this series.

I just finished reading the book just now, and I am left feeling sad and disheartened at the end.  I really wish Sookie would make up her mind between Bill and Eric and get her HEA, but, either way she chooses one or the other of the boys will be totally heartbroken!

I think my major gripe is the rushed down tempo ending.
