Why can't someone change their address until hey have received three books? I've already sent ten, I would think that validates me as a real person worthy of getting books where I want them. What I really want is multiple addresses, sometimes I want the book at home, sometimes at work, and sometimes at a friends house.

Thanks,

d

PS,Sorry if this has been posted before, as I just mentioned in the previosu thread I am not finding anything using search.

If you Really need to change it before you've received 3 books, you can go to the bottom of your screen and click the Contact Us link.  From there, you can send in a Feedback email for the PBS team to change it  for you.

You can also use the "mail to a friend" option.   I mail to friends all over the place.  The books do not have to go to your home address, every time.

You can't change your address until after you've used up the "free" credits you got for posting your first 10 books. It's an automated rule that applies to everyone; it's not a personal thing about whether your validated or not. The reasons for the rule have not been published, but it's easy enough to imagine how someone could take advantage of the situation, so I believe it's there to protect the other members and the club as a whole.

I think you only need to get 2 books before you can change your own address now, though it used to be 3. If you need to change your address before that, just ask the PBS Team by using the Contact Us link. Once you've gotten 2 (or 3) books at your main account address, you'll also be able to specify an alternate mailing address when you request books, so you can order and send them directly to your office or a friend.

Mail to a friend option is when you are sending from your own shelf I believe. Changing and mailing to an alternate addy is not allowed until 3 books have been received .from at that address.

My only guess as to the why is to make sure people are who they really are and are giving the site a valid address, you can easily mail books out with a bogus addy, but you need to receive them at a real address. It also keeps people who have been booted from the site from coming back and using the mail to an alternate address to get books without having their real address on file. Another reason might be that the more than two accounts per household is easier to catch using mailing address instread if the IP address.

I would just use the "send it to a friend" option. Nothing says the friend can't be you. I wouldn't want to be changing my address every week and hoping that the people sending me the books I want to go to work print the label before I change my address back to my home address.

You cant use the mail until a friend option until you have received the first books at your own address, because, like Cathy said it is a way to ensure that each new member is not someone with a duplicate account, just joining to get the gift credits and closing their account. If you are moving in between the time that you joined and expect to receive books, you can certainly send in to the PBS Team to change the main address on your account, but if it is just a temporary change to have books sent to your job address or a friend's address, then you will need to mark your first few books as received at the address given at the time the account was opened.

First of all let me be clear I think this is a great site, I'm just sharing suggestions that I think would make it better. Or in this cas etrying to better understand the logic behind the system.

In this case, waiting until I have used my free credits would make sense to me, but that isn't what is happening. Instead the site says I need to receive 2 books, which is still a little weird to me but I guess it does verify something. Unfortunately it means I will not be able to receive books while I travel for the next few week.

I saw that I could email and ask for a change, but then I will have to change it back again. So I will probably wait until I done traveling to receive books.

Thanks!
