I've noticed that on quite a number of occasions I've been bumped out of position in the que after holding that position for months.  Why does this happen?  How can anyone insert themselves in the que before me?  It really doesn't make sense.

From the Help Center:

Why did I move *backward* on my Wish List?

This happens when another member who was "ahead of you" in line previously (and who got an offer of the book already) gets back into line, for one of several reasons:

  • The member's Wish List book never arrived, and was declared lost in the mail
  • The member's Wish List transaction was canceled by the sender
  • The member had had her account on hold, and has now returned from vacation and unHeld her account. She will go back into line at her previous position when she does this: if she was "ahead of you" before, you will move back a space.

Please be assured that we would NEVER put another member ahead on the Wish List without good cause--in order to go ahead of others on the Wish List, a member MUST have Wish Listed that item earlier (on an earlier date) than they did.

They have also changed it so that people who receive a book with a problem automatically get their place back in line when they mark it RWAP.

often times when people have surgery or a hospital stay, they will put their acct on hold for a month or more---that's what I see/ hear a lot about in the forums!

I only request books when I feel I'll read them within a couple of months, so when I'm getting closer to the top of the line, I put the books on hold. Sometimes I've had books on hold for 6+ months before I request them.

I have several books on my wishlist that are on individual hold right now.  I'm in first place for a lot of them (have had them on my wl on hold for three months or more), but not ready to order them yet--also I might end up getting some of these from other sources (library, in e-book format, etc).  Anyway, I'll eventually either take these books off of hold and then be in first place on the wishlist, effectively bumping everyone behind me down a notch--or I'll delete the wish.

When someone has a wishlist book on hold they aren't counted in the total wishers for that book.

I've got most of my WL on hold right now for budgetary reasons.  And to make sure I really, really, REALLY want to spend a credit on the book.

I really like that there is the hold feature that still lets you move up in the FICO line.
