Based on the condition this arrived in, I think it was used as a text for either a studio art class or an education class for teachers.
As a wannabe artist, it was a liberating read. It busted lots of myths, and explained some mysteries (of success, fame and sales). I don't know that I want to do what it takes to become "rich and famous" as an artist, but this affirms that the way to be a painter is to paint. And paint some more.
