This book meets your requirements.

Our home is non-smoking.
It is NOT a library book.
It is a hard cover with the dust jacket.

IN ADDITION, it is a signed copy, autographed by one of the two authors.

As this book exceeds both PBS's standards AND your above average standards, would you consider giving me an additional credit if you like it?

To be very honest Micheal
That won't be possible, I understand if you want more for your book because you feel it's value is worth more than one credit. But you did list it on a book trade site not ebay.

Here are The site rules in case you didn't know.

Can I offer/ask more credits (more than PBS 'price') for a book?
NO.

A bound book "costs" 1 credit at PBS (no exceptions)

An audiobook "costs" 2 credits at PBS

some "children's-length" audiocassette items cost 1 credit each
Offering to "pay" (or asking a requestor to "pay"--see below) more than "PBS price" for a book is not permitted.

Why?

If the book is Wishlisted, offering more than the PBS "price" for the book may allow members to leapfrog over others in the Wish List for the book. This obviously is not fair.

Even if the book is not Wish Listed, a "free market" system could lead to "bidding" for a book, and auctions are NOT permitted on PBS.
One reason is that auctions are subject to state laws, and as PBS members belong to various states, this could be illegal.
The other reason is that we want all members to have a fair chance to get books on PBS. Pitting those who have lots of credits to spare against those who don't have a lot of credits at the time goes against the very spirit of PBS--the fair sharing of books. Everybody equal.
Asking for more than "PBS price" for a book is considered bookselling

Bookselling is not permitted at PBS

If you feel that your book is too valuable (or too costly to ship) to be swapped for "PBS price", you should not Post it here.
If this is a matter of postage cost (your book is heavy), remember that you can also request a "heavy" book with the credit you get for sending yours--so it all evens out.

You didn't answer my question...directly. My question was would YOU consider giving me an extra credit. It was NEVER about my requiring or asking for an additional credit.

But I figured out your answer from your message. Gosh! It's a good thing I didn't ask for more credits for that book!

Ok. No problem...as long as I don't lose the book before shipping it. That happened last month. I wrapped up a book for a request so I could take it to the post office. I still haven't found that one.

I would report this person ASAP.  I highly doubt you are the first person they have sent this type of message too and some newbie may have actually given them a credit.

Little piece of .... I hope you find his account to closed soon. Asking members to give extra credits and if they won't he "loses" the books. Glad the little turd put his plot in writing.

Wish you wouldn't have cancelled the order. Gave him the opportunity to ply his plot on another member and you lost your place in the Wish List line. Should have stuck to your guns and made him mail it for a credit or take the book off of his Bookshelf and get his record of cancelling requests whenever his demand for additional credits didn't work. Don't let crappy members bully you!

last msg from sender to me....still no reply from PBS
Yes, you DID reply: you said it wasn't possible which is incorrect. But that was answering a question I did NOT ask: "Would it be possible...?"

To be clear: I never required nor expected additional credits.

I asked if you would CONSIDER...? In other words, would you have an open mind?

You could have just said, "No," "No, thanks," or "I'd rather not."

The answer is obvious that you do NOT have an open mind, at least not in this instance.

And I'm okay with that.

It's just too bad you changed your mind because it's a superlative book, personally autographed by the 2 time U.S. Senatorial candidate and 1 time sister-in-law of 2008 and 2012 U.S. Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, author Ronna Romney.

Other than the autograph, there are no markings or highlighting in the book. It is clean, free of mold, smoke, and other odors. The dust jacket is intact and free of rips, tears, folds, or creases.

I even took extra care to set this book aside so I wouldn't lose it before shipping like I had experienced last month. It was all set to get wrapped and go with me on my next trip to the post office.

I have been doing this with PBS longer than you and have successfully shipped and received hundreds of books.

I have shipped and filled almost every request I have received, including international orders, which cost more in postage than the additional credits offset.

The only exceptions are books that I am unable to locate, due to moving twice in the past 4 years.

So postage cost to ship this book was never an issue.

Finally, even though your characterization of "NOT COOL" is hilarious because it's coming from someone who virtually stomps her feet and pouts when engaged in adult conversation (by canceling her request for something she clearly wants), I STILL stand ready to deliver this book and any of the other books I have listed, for the standard PBS credit prices or less, to you or anyone else who requests.

Yes, I would still ship this book to you, Kymberli, if you are the first person to request it.

If you change your mind, feel free to re-request it. To show you that there are no hard feelings from me, I'll ship it out within 24 hours of your re-request and you'll be enjoying a great book by next week.

Now there's a piece of work, hope TPTB take action against that member. Think's he's being cute and clever, really arrogant instead.

Please let us know if the account gets zapped. I'm certainly hoping it will be. What a snot.

I sure hope it happens soon, before they get any more orders.

Wow!  That's all I can say!  He sounds like an arrogant piece of.... well, you fill in the blank!!

But now I am wondering... Can we even get "international" requests on here? I've NEVER gotten an international request & I didn't think this site was even set up outside of the U.S. to begin with.

The only international shipping one might have to do is to an APO address and technically that's not international.  That statement is false as PBS is not set up for international members.  I had a member by the name of  Michael try this on me a few years ago.  He asked people what books they were looking for and when he found one I had on my WL, tried to get me to ante up a second credit because he had gotten from an international seller.  I basically told him no way, that it was against the rules, and if he wasn't going to follow the rules, then he needed to cancel the order.  He did send me the book, but he was not happy about it.

That's what I was thinking, Sandy.  I was kind of leery when I saw that he'd said that. It makes me think he's trying to pull one over on other members & that's rude, but it's also not allowed to ask for more credits to begin with.

WOW, ego or what..LOL  And no it doesn't cost more to send to an APO, because media mail can be used for that too!

Unless you are wanting a book signed by someone's sisters cousins mothers friend..LOL (thats how it read to me). I'd just request the book later when this member is closed down.

I very much doubt he/she would have stopped asking if you'd have said No or even sent the book.   And it is against the rules to ask/suggest/consider or solicit more then one credit for books.

"would you consider giving me an additional credit?"

Yes, he did ask for a credit and it's clearly against the rules.

"I have shipped and filled almost every request I have received, including international orders, which cost more in postage than the additional credits offset."

He admits to doing it before and got away with it and he will do it again.

"I STILL stand ready to deliver this book and any of the other books I have listed, for the standard PBS credit prices or less, to you or anyone else who requests."

This is called back-paddleing after being caught! It helps him justify breaking the rules.

And if it's not about money then why doesn't he just go buy his additional credits from the site or in the Bazaar?!?!

Damn, this is epic. Please update us if you get a reply from PBS or see that his account was closed. I don't think I have ever wanted to see an account shut down so badly. I agree with others, his language makes it sound like he's gotten away with this before, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was one and the same Michael across both stories in this thread. Even if it's not the case, the Team needs to step in on this one, and hopefully soon.

Regarding international trades, another book-swapping website (rhymes with CookHooch wink) provides the option for international swaps, so perhaps this person has spread his sliminess to another site.

This is the part that did it for me:  "Ok. No problem...as long as I don't lose the book before shipping it."

This sounds like a not-so-thinly-veiled threat ... if you don't send me additional credits, your book may never make it to the mailbox.  What a jerk!!

Don't expect PBS to tell you what they decide to do about this.  They will no doubt take action, but not advise you on what action they take.

You can keep checking this idiot's account to see if it's been shut down.

Sorry you ran into one of the not honest swappers on here.  Most are honest, reliable and a joy to deal with.

Well, I am disappointed they didn't close his account. In my opinion, it seems like a valid reason to close out an account.
