Watch. Then share. i think the video is a fairly straightforward response to a frequently asked question. As for me, I care because I'm forced to care by all the bias and hatred I deal with, and because of the way my rights and beliefs are infringed on.

I had never actually thought of any of those reasons before. When asked the question why do you care my resoning is that religions any and all of them fascinate me. To add to the list of rights infringed on by religion though in my city and many other cities in my state especially in the region I live in it is illegal to play pool on Sundays because its seen as something that is synonimous with vices like alchohol. Ive never once stepped foot into a bar but I have been shooting pool since I was 14.

Wow...didn't even know that this forum was here...guess I never scroll down this far! I have to agree, I am fascinated with different religions and beliefs from around the world.

Does anyone know of any good books that tell of the characters in the bible or are about comparing different religions?

I have put 2 on my wishlist that I have found Comparative Religion For Dummies and The Story

Any thoughts? I don't want anything too scholarly or heavy.

Look in the Jesus as a mythic archetype thread in this forum I posted a link to a google book that is photocopied and downloadable in PDF format. Its a public domain book that is past its copyright so its not an illegal copy or anything like that.

Huston Smith's classic The Religions of Man (older edition here), now called The World's Religions, is a good, readable introduction to major religions. There's some comparison and contrast, but the real point is to give a basic presentation of each. Overall it's a good book.

As for The Story, you could probably accomplish the same effect by reading a selection of Bible books in order: Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, 1&2 Samuel, 1&2 Kings, Ezra & Nehemiah, 1Maccabees (in a Catholic or Orthodox Bible), and Luke & Acts. You could do this with any translation(s) you find readable. That would give you an overview of the basic storyline, then (if you wanted) you could add in a few others for interest, like Jonah, Job, or Ecclesiastes.
