This has happened to me once before, but I thought I would ask.  I had a book on my WL and yesterday it had 114 people waiting.  I'm waiting for it to be posted to me and clicking on the book it is now available to order.  This is a Paranormal Romance book and I don't think in one day 114 copies of the book were FiFo'd.  This happened before where I owned a book that had a WL of 32 the next day I looked and it was available to order so I put it in FIFO and the next thing I know the book once again shows the WL of 32 or so.

Anyone know why this happens?

What's the ISBN of the book you are talking about?

Sometimes books get reissued with a new ISBN and people with put it on their WL even though there's other copies in the system available already.

It shows as having 1 copy available on that ISBN and having 5 WL for hte hardcover version.  I don't see any copies with a long WL of that title by that author.

I know which is strange.  Maybe there was a sudden influx of the book!

I see hwat you are talking about now. I resorted to show WL books.  It bought that same book up and even said "this book is on your reminder list, same ISBN" and listed 108 WL.  But it was going to let me order the book.

I think that it's just a glitch in the system and it's not really WL anymore.  Because when I went from the main list that said 108  WL, it brought me to a book with an Order This Book button and when I hit Order it started the order process. I was tempted to order it to see what would happen but I really have no interest in that book at this point.

Now when I go in to my book order it shows it as WL'd for 108.  Must have been a moment of PBS kookiness.  Thanks for your help, Mary. smiley

I am pretty sure that book has not been off of the Wish List since it was released.

There seems to be a glitch in the system, I've seen a few reports of people being able to request WLed books from the just posted listings even though the book had a long WL line. Anytime you see something like that, send in Feedback via the Contact Us and let them know. It may turn out to be nothing or you are seeing something wrong, but it might also give the Team a change to catch the glitch and fix it.

Definitely a glitch...I had something similar--I have the hardcover version of "The Help" on my Reminder List--this book has over 2000 members wishing for it.  Last night I was surprised to see it list as having one copy available when I was looking at my reminder list.  Today it's back to having over 2000 members wishing for it.

Yup ... same thing happened to me, about a month ago I ordered a book that popped up on my Reminder List as available (received it, read it, and went to repost it all within 8 days) and when I went to repost it I was surprised to discover it had a Wish List of 90.

(And it is newly released book by a very popular author, with only one ISBN associated with it).

I just figured it was some temporary quirk in the system, at the time. (cause I've never seen a WL go from about 100 wishers to 1 copy available back up to 90 wishers, all in the same month that a book has been released)

I have seen books move pretty quickly.  I got a WL book once that had over 30 wishers for it when I received the book. I read and reposted the book within 2 wks.  When I reposted it there were 50 copies in the system.  I read it quickly because I new it wouldn't stay WL but I figured I'd have more than 2 wks.   It was still ordered pretty quickly anyway.

When I posted the Red Tent a couple of years ago there was 300+ copies in the system of just my version. It was ordered from FIFO within just a couple of weeks and I've noticed that it's been on and off WL ever since.

The book that I am talking about had a WL of about 100 people though, and I realized as I was trying to repost it, that it had only been released for about three weeks at that point.

There are a lot of books that move very fast, but I have never seen a hundred copies of a book posted in what amounts to a week or two. And then have the WL go back up from 0 to 90 within another week. Maybe a Harry Potter book would do that ... but I am talking about a (non-paranormal) historical romance, here ... by a very popular romance writer ... but still, its no Harry Potter. People all over the country are not pre-ordering this book or running out to buy it right away by the thousands.

I think that what is more likely is that I was able to order my copy through some glitch in the system ... and in the meantime, over the week and a half until I reposted the book, about 10 other copies were also posted, reducing the WL from about 100 to 90.

The usual pattern for historical romances is that when they are by a popular author, they have a WL of 80-200 until they are released, the WL moves down steadily over the next 2-5 months, then the book might spend another month or two hovering between a couple copies posted and a couple people wishing, and then usually by about 6 months after it has been released, the posted copies start building up and the book becomes permanently available in the system. When I figured out the pattern was the same for pretty much all historical romances, I stopped putting them on my Wish List, and just decided to always order from my RL when they become available ... so when I ordered this particular book, it didn't seem weird to me,  I check my RL every day and order books with one copy posted all the time. I only noticed the still large Wish List and few weeks old release date when I went to repost the book.

I can't prove that's what happened, because I didn't check the book listing when I ordered the book, I had no reason to .... but I really do think that's what happened.

It must be a pretty common gliche (or at least getting more common) as I had this situation happen about 2 months ago.  I did send in feedback to the team, but never received an email back from them, so I guess they still haven't figured it out.  Especially since it's still happening.

This just happened to me twice this week again. (I started checking every book that I was ordering off my Reminder List after this thread made me aware that it was more common than I thought).

See a book pop up with one copy available on RL .... click on the listing before ordering to see what it says, yes, it has the "Order This Book" button and no WL. Order the copy in the system. Go back to the listing and it now shows a WL of 39 people (book #1 that I ordered) and a WL of 121 people (book #2 that I ordered).

I've reported this to PBS because I think I have additional information.

I have now found 2 random book listings that show this problem (I am just posting books to my TBR that I bought at Borders today), and in every case so far, the ISBN in question has also been available to purchase new from the PBS market. I have not seen the issue with book that are not available in the PBS market.

Maybe that will help them to narrow down the issue.

I had this happen yesterday, while looking at my RL a book released on 4/5 was available, although when I clicked on the book it had 121 wishers, and as soon as I ordered it, it still had 121 wishers. It's not available in the PBS market though.
