I'm assuming I get the email the book is mailed when the sender marks it as mailed, right?

But how in the world does someone mail it on a Sunday? Are they putting it in their mailbox and then saying it is mailed?

I'm asking because I just got a "book mailed" email about 5 minutes ago. I don't mark my stuff unless I know it is out of my possession and into the post office hands.

I'm just wondering what others do?

Any thoughts??

On my way to the store, I've passed by the Post Office and mailed a book, even tho I knew technically it would not go out til the next day. Nevertheless I've marked it "mailed".  :)

I mark it mailed as soon as I put it in the mailbox.

There are some postal stations that are open on sundays.  Up here in MI we have Meijers which is the competitor for walmart and their postal stations are open 7 days a week (even though the books probably don't leave there til mon morning) so maybe someone is mailing from one of these.

Maybe this person forgot to get on the computer and mark it mailed and actually mailed it yesterday?  That's happen to me before.

I use the APC machine and as soon as I buy the postage and stick it in the box, it is mailed in my mind whether the PO is open or not.  the APC machine allows me to mail books on my schedule!

The town my Dad lives in does't have mail service on Saturdays, but they do have it on Sundays.

I buy PBS postage. It may not get out until the next business day, but as far as I'm concerned, it's mailed once I've purchased that postage and put it in the mailbox.

Some people click that it has been mailed right away, even when it's pretty certain they have not mailed it yet (such as an order placed late on a Saturday night that is marked mailed immediately).

I don't mark mine mailed until I have actually sent them.

There are people inside the PO on Sundays even if they're not open.  Someone's gotta sort the mail and get it ready to go out the next day.  Many times I've taken stuff to the PO on Sunday and put it inside the drop slot in the lobby.  It does get sorted to go out right away.  Or, I've dropped stuff in a blue mailbox.  It's not going to get picked up until Monday afternoon but it has been mailed.

To me if its in the box, be it the one on front of my house or the blue box, then its mailed.

I frequently put books in the blue box on Sundays.  If I use the printed postage, I put the date as Monday. But once it's in the box, it's mailed. I can't get back. So even if it's not techically getting shipped until Mon-it's in the post office's hands.

We have  postal sub-station in a grocery store that's open until 4 on Sat.  The last mail pick up is 1pm. But they'll collect drop-offs and sell postage until 4pm.

On Sundays, the primary postal facility here ships out mail to Atlanta (sometimes Macon) as late as 6 p.m. Mail deposited there on Sundays after 6 p.m. is sorted beginning at 11 p.m. Sunday night and rides out on the 10:30 a.m. Monday truck to Atlanta. That's first class mail.

Today, I mailed four Swap-a-BCD items at the post office and marked them "mailed" when I returned home.

I can't speak for all the "nocturnals" here, but for myself, I confess to having deposited mail in the post office lobby slots at 11 p.m. or after.

=================

Note: Swap-a-BCD  [Swap a Book, CD, or DvD] is my collective term for the three swap sites.

I live 1/2 a block from a blue box and will often take a night-time stroll to mail a package.  Once it's in there,  it's mailed. :-)

I just stamped a book and put it in the outgoing mail slot here at work.  I then marked it mailed, even though it won't get picked up for a few hours yet.

My hubby works nights and I often will give him book orders that have come in over the weekend to mail on Sunday night--there is a blue box about a block from his work so he drops them there. Even though they probably don't actually get to the PO until Monday morning when they collect the mail from the box, once they're out of my hands and into a postal facility of some sort, they're marked mailed!

I use the APC , place it in the depository and mark the book mailed when I get home.  It is indeed in the PO "hands" at that point, even on Sunday.

There's been times when I have mailed books on a Friday/Saturday on my way out of town and then when I get  home on Sunday mark them mailed because I didn't have access to a computer before then.

But how in the world does someone mail it on a Sunday?

Well considering that PBS does allow for Sundays to be selected as a will mail by date, I am guessing that they consider anything put in a blue box or using the APS kiosk which is usually available 24/7 and dropping in the package slot "mailed"

I mark my books mailed when I put them in the mailbox. Are we not supposed to do that?

I mark them mailed as soon as it's someone else's responsibility to take it from there.  So if I wrap a book and put it in my mailbox on a Sunday, I mark it on a Sunday (because chances are, that I may not remember to mark it as mailed on Monday).  :)

I've always assumed that's what you were supposed to do - mark it mailed once it's in the box.  I go the post office after hours and on Sunday by choice.  I use the APC and I don't have to wait in line.  I like it that way.

This is exactly what I do.
