I mailed a book out on Thursday from Michigan with its destination to Pennsylvania. I just checked the little truck and the details. It's in Nashville!!! What the heck is it doing there? Listening to country music at Opryland??? Oh my! Pennsylvania is a lot closer to Michigan than Tennessee.

A clerk at my P.O. told me this week that media routes and processing centers had been changed in some areas, which would mean longer routes and some added delivery time for media mail.

The little truck isn't actually that reliable anyway.  Once the book gets scanned somewhere, the truck'll reset to the right place.

I think you're right -- it had a hankering for some country music!

Connie :  My clerk told me the same thing as Dawn.  Sometimes it will be faster and other times slower.   I sent one  book to the next state - MA.  I am in NH.  Now my home and where it is being sent lines up north to south.  The book was sent to Springfield MA which is 2 hours west of both of us and near the NY/VT border. So the book traveled west to Springfield MA to travel east to Boston and then on to Cambrdige - next city over.  It took a week to arrive.

I sent my sister who is in VT (the same day) a box of books and they arrived in one day.  I believe the book was first class and my sister's box was media mail.  Go figure.

It's amazing where some books have to go to get to where they are going. Some states, no matter if the book is being sent just a couple hours away, take forever because the book has to go thru a bulk routing center that is in a different state. Matter of fact, lots of books have to do this.

I would definately try USPS Tracking if you think PBS has not been updated.   USPS provides a little more info such as sorting facility and such, but PBS states it is in route (USPS doesn't provide that info).    Most times I don't really care unless it is about to go lost, but books I sent last Friday are being marked received today - which is shocking because of the holiday and I believe they were all media mail except for one book.   Anyway - - I just happened on to this (I have used it before but didn't have this kind of info) thought it was cool - so I am sharing. Since PBS retrieves the info from USPS it is understandable that USPS will update first.   You can also setup so USPS to email you updates so you don't have to go back and check - just have to remember the confirmation numbers.   Again - that doesn't interest me unless the book is near being loss, but it may come in handy for others.

I sent a book recently from Pennsylvania that was to go to Florida - for some reason it went to California first, then back to Pennsylvania (not my house, a different part of the state), then finally made it to California - ONE MONTH after I initially mailed it!

A book came to me recently from Marlboro, MA, which is about 20 minute drive.  Watched the truck go from Marlboro to New Jersey and back up to MA.  Had a good laugh.

One thing about it, the USPS keeps us guessing.

Well this beats all.  I sent several books out last Friday.  I didn't think they would arrive at any location until later this week because of Labor Day.  All of them arrived at their new home - all were marked rec'd last night and this morning - except for one package.   They went all over the map.  I think I like holiday's.

I'm the OP. I forgot to mention that this book was sent First Class Parcel. I again checked the details on it. Last night it was scanned again in Nashville. This has been going on since last Thursday. I thought that First Class is the fastest. I know that media mail goes on crazy trips, but now First Class?

Connie - did you check the USPS website? I did and found that I have enroute to a location but it was arrived at the "unit" and then the next day it said finished through sort process.  I don't know if it will have additional info or not, but I will check both places if the detail page doesn't give me the proper info.  Just copy the DC# from the details page and plug it into the field at this site.     USPS Track & Confirm Page

For one of the books - because the member is waiting on it for a book club - I used USPS - it didn't give me anymore info than the detail page.  So I added it to email me updates - 3 hours later rec'd a email that it was at the unit.  Details page still was not updated  - since I think it scans for updates at certain times.  Anyway just a thought.
