Subject: Why did I just get a WL offer?

So, my account is on vacation hold right now (still in effect, I checked). I just opened my account to find a WL offer for a book I did not have on auto-request. I was given the big red and green buttons to select whether I actually wanted it or not, so I'm sure it was not accidentally on auto.

Is this just a glitch? Or is my entire account being on vacation hold now not enough? Do I also need to go through my WL? Seems like putting your entire account on hold ought to be enough, argh. I like to keep my account on hold during the semester and just use auto-request for the books I have to get right now (and have enough credits for).

I couldn't find a specific reference to this in the "What's new" WL info, but I apologize if I'm missing something completely obvious! The help documents about vacation hold still say that non-autorequest books will be passed over during the hold.

If you are absolutely certain that the book was NOT on auto-request, I would contact PBS--it could be a glitch. Only AR books should be offered to you at this point. You didn't, by chance, accidentally check the "set auto-request to default" button at the top of the wish list, did you?

Don't decline yet--obviously you will lose your place in line if you do. Let PBS know so they can return you to #1 in line and then you should double check to make sure it's not on AR.

If you need to accept or decline then there obviously wasn't an Auto-Request on the book. Send in feedback and ask the Team to look into it.

Nope, I saw that button and steered clear of it. My first thought was the same - I must have accidentally set the book to auto-request - but then I saw those big accept/decline buttons with red and green text. Those shouldn't pop up for auto-request books.

I already canceled the book. I'm not worried about that one right now, in fact I'd forgotten it was on my wish list (nobody yell at me, normally I can afford to do that without inconveniencing anyone while I'm on hold!). I just wanted to make sure they didn't completely separate "wish list" holds from "vacation" holds. In that case I would have some work to do ASAP.

Thanks for the help!

ETA Melanie, I'll make sure and do that. Thanks!

Did you add the book to your wish list after you put your account on hold?  From the help docs:

If you place a book on your Wish List while an account Vacation Hold is in effect, that Wish List item will not be hidden by the account Vacation Hold.

Think of your non-auto-requested Wish List items as a birthday present.   Whatever is on your Wish List will be "wrapped up" by the Hold when it goes into effect, and the birthday present will be "hidden" from view by the Wrapping; anything placed on the birthday present after it has been wrapped (any newly Wishlisted books) will not be hidden from view.  This analogy also applies to how the Hold "hides" items on your Bookshelf.

I'm pretty sure that part of the Help doc is old and not correct anymore, they changed that stuff right around the time I joined. Vacation Holds should hide everything except AR Wish List books.

Well, it says that WL books would be hidden, unless they were put on the WL after the hold was in effect.

I just did an experiment - put my account on hold, and then added a WL book.  Can you see it?

(I don't think I can check my own profile because it doesn't give me the "public" version of it).

Tracy, I can see your WL, but can't post any books directly to you, which is 100% what's supposed to happen when an accout is on hold.  (You can check it yourself by looking at your public profile and clicking to your WL from there.)

Can you post One More Bite (Jaz Parks, Bk 5) to my wish list?   That's the one I added after the hold.  From where I look, I don't see a button to post it, but then I don't see any buttons to post to other peoples wish lists either (probably because my account is on hold).
