we cancel a book requested from us? I had 3 people cancel a book that I requested, but I don't know why. It doesn't really matter, but it bugs me that I have to write a reason when I do that, so why don't they? Finally, someone did accept my request after 3 tries, so I am happy about that.

I always wonder the same thing.  When I order a book and it is cancelled by the sender (not timed-out), I never get to see why it was cancelled.  It just goes to the next person in line.  When I have to cancel a book I have to state why I am cancelling it.  So, who sees it?  Obviously not the person who ordered the book.  Are TPTB looking at the reasons we cancel the transaction?

I believe the timing of the cancellation determines whether you need to put in an explanation or not. IIRC, if you say that you do not meet RCs or you cannot mail the book when you first get the request, you need to give a reason; if say you can mail the book and then later cancel there is no place to put your reason.

I think it is a notation so if an account does show a pattern they can look back and read the reasons. Not that someone up to no good can't just lie, but it does give them a way to gather information.
