It's back to a classic English country-house murder with Miss Silver. Young Dorinda Brown gets a job as secretary for the birdbrained Mrs. Oakley, but she's going to get more than she realizes. Mrs. Oakley, along with a number of other rich folk, is being blackmailed by the nasty Gregory Porlock. And Dorinda will soon realize she knows something about Porlock he would rather she kept to herself. When Porlock is murdered during a house party, the suspects are legion...until Miss Silver comes in to lay their secrets bare. I've read five or six of these now, they do follow the same formula, but it's quite enjoyable.
