Grim. The author has an odd notion of who is always bad, who is always good and who is variable. The main character continuously claims that he, "just wants to be left alone" and then turns around and inserts himself in the world around him. Then he acts surprised to the point of murderous rage when he is noticed by the people he forced to notice him. The main character also seems to have a level of fitness and skill quite above that of a retired teamster in his 50's who lives on meat and whiskey.
