Wow! A great book about love lost and love found, forgiveness and mothers' wisdom. Emotionally full and heart-wrenching. I could hardly put it down!

"Olivia and Carl Larkin appear to have the perfect life: two grown children, weekends on Cape Cod, and prestigious positions as professors at Belvedere College in a picturesque New England town. But their seemingly sweet contentment self-destructs instantly when Carl leaves the house one morning--and disappears. While he travels back to his childhood hometown to confront demons from his past, Olivia, terrified and abandoned, relives the haunting heartbreak she felt when she lost her first husband and is forced to face the emotional void at the core of her current marriage. Written with unerring skill and unflinching honesty, The Windmill is a dramatic story of the secrets we are entitled to keep--and those we must share--to protect ourselves and preserve our closest ties."
