I hate reviewing sequels since it is so hard to do without giving away much of what occurs in the first book, and is ultimately resolved in the next. That is especially true with this book, since it reveals a major plot element that will ruin the first book (The Tea Rose) for anyone who has yet to read it. Therefore my review is general. I loved this book that follows up on the lives of a number of characters introduced in The Tea Rose. It also introduces and focuses on a host of new characters. The main focus of the book is India Selwyn Jones, who is a woman doctor in the early 1900's. Set to marry an up and coming politician, her paths cross with the vicious gang land leader Sid Malone. An unlikely friendship begins when India treats Sid after he is involved in a fight. What India doesn't know is that Sid is hiding a dangerous secret about his past, one that endangers everyone he comes in contact with.

This book was a wonderful read, and very fast going, even though it was over 700 pages. I cannot wit for book three, although it is a year or two away.
