Very cute story! Well, maybe I should say the ending was very cute, since the beginning was pretty hard on the main character (and everyone else she knew at the time). This is the sort of young adult book I wish was around back when I was that age and unable to find anything good to read - this would have been perfect! Anyway, the plot isn't the most original, but it's well and told and held my interest throughout. I wish a little more time had been spent on the romantic elements and on the characters of the Sorcerer and his half siblings. There's some backstory there that could have been fleshed out a little more, and I'm curious to know what it is! The ending was a little gushy-sweet, but I liked it anyway.

And for anyone reading this who might be curious, I just figured out that this author, Linnea Sinclair, also writes under the name Megan Sybil Baker, and that many of her books are published under both names in various stages of print and availability.

Khamsin was born at Wintertide during a great storm.

She was conceived when her mother was raped. Her father is unknown, probably one of the feared raiders. Neither her blood family nor her village has a welcome for her.

So she is raised by the old healer, Bronya, who teaches her about the powers of magic and the strange fate that awaits her.

In her seventeenth year another terrible raid decimates the village and Khamsin is attacked and blamed. Since Bronya is dead, she decides that now is the time to set out on her own to meet her fate, and maybe, stop the war that has raged for generations.

Along the way, she will find danger, friends, deceit, and her one true love, but will it, and she, be enough?

I don't consider this Sinclair's best writing, but her average writing is better that most authors' best.
