One for advertising your books and one for chit chat. The chit chat gets lost in the ad posts.

I kinda think there should be a limit on how many ad messages you can post in a day. 1 a day should be enough. I check here for discussions on homeschool issues.

I agree.  I do check here to see if anyone's posted anything I use and have snagged up some good stuff.  So I like that feature.  But it's hard to see what people are talking about.

Preston is faboo. =) He's shedding all over and so he's been quiet and subdued for th past coupla days. He enjoyed a long warm bath this morning and is growing leaps and bounds. He is now as long as 1 1/2 extended arms and requires two hands to pick him up.

I love my lizard baby. =)

Did I tell you we have pet rats now, too? I am in love with one of them!! The other likes my daughters better than me. Rats are fun...really!

Also...I do appreciate the ads. I order from them sometimes (deals would be nice...hint, hint) BUT I like the chat here better. Sometimes, this is the only connection I have with other home schoolers.

Michelle,

Maybe you could ask the "powers that be" for a homeschool bazaar and this one be designated homeschool chat. You could do a poll and see what the hs folks want.

Luigi is having a tough shed and we know he won't ever be normal after the trauma of his abandonment by his previous owner.

Rats... I just can't past the tails. ewww. Although they are supposed to be super intelligent. I feel your pain regarding the rat preferring your dd. The skink that was given to *me*, prefers my daughter. Sigh... At least the cats like me best ;-)

My oldest boys had pet rats, Ozzy and Hedwig. They are really cool. They can learn all kinds of cool tricks and will respond to their names. Unfortunately ours have passed away. Apparently they ate the plastic off of their water bottle. The boys were so upset. I never actaully held them. lol The tail thing. But they had cute faces!!

The official rules on the Bazaar are one ad per day, and no more than one bump per day... IMHO the same rules should apply here, especially since technically the site prohibits advertising anywhere except the Bazaar (though almost everyone disagrees with and ignores that particular rule, including me!).  I agree that it's difficult to find the chat when you come to the board to see half a dozen or more posts one right after the other advertising specific titles... ONE post of "hey I listed some new homeschool books" with all of the titles inside should be sufficient (and would frankly be just as easy for anyone seeking to check, without disrupting the entire forum!).

Frankly, to tell you the truth, I don't have time to list more than one time a day!  I mean, I've been on here almost a year, and 2 days ago was the first time I had ever listed up anything regarding my bookshelf.  Listed my first 2 for 1 deal!  But I didn't list my books on here.....I just figured it was as easy to go to my bookshelf and look and see if there was anything anybody wanted.

Okay well I screwed up!  I'm one of those that listed the books in my post, but it was because the deal was on certain books, so I guess that's why I thought that was okay.  but I didn't know you are just supposed to list in the Bazaar.

Sorry about that guess I know what not to do now!

Thanks stacey

Oh, Nina, I love their tails. Do you know that they can grip with them? Rat tails are very strong! =) They talk to you, interact with you, look for you when you call their names, and love to snuggle. They are pretty neat pets. And they're clean, too! They only poop in one small corner of their huge cage, and they clean themselves all the time. They smell like maple syrup naturally. It's a boy rat thing. (in other words, they don't stink) :P

Compared to the vast amounts of books being swapped around here I am only interested in a small miniscule...almost all of that homeschooling/children related.  I would HATE to have to wade around the Bazaar looking for what I'm interested in.  I rarely go there and when I do I just end up with a headache.  Too much wading through stuff I'm not interested in.  There must be a happy medium :-)

Maybe a happy medium would be if people policed themselves by only posting ONCE instead of one post for each book they add to their shelves.

That wouldn't be too bad. It's post after post after post that eats the whole forum that bothers me.

My thoughts exactly.  I posted a 3-for-1 on children's books in the bazaar for several days with no takers, and got several in a matter of hours on the children's board!!  It's silly to not let you advertise at all in the subject forums, though it does make sense to follow the same one-ad-per-day rule in every forum (not including just chatting, of course!).  IMHO the rule about the bazaar should be no NON-forum related posts in the forums... so if you are offering a 2-for-1 on every book on your shelf, that would be bazaar only.  But if your deal is only homeschool books or only romance or only sci-fi, etc. etc. then of course you should advertise in the appropriate forum!!  Apparently we aren't the only ones who feel this way, because I find great deals and "hidden treasures" in the subject forums (including this one!) all the time!! :)

Rosey-Posey,

Honestly, on any given day I don't see very many conversations going on at one time. Maybe a couple, at most, and those are usually continueing from another day. Really, I don't think there is that much activity on this board in regards to posting book listings or conversations to warrant a separate board for each. I just don't think it's that hard to look down through the posts on this board to find any one thread. Perhaps that will change as the traffic on this site grows. But I am saying this with the traffic in mind that  I have seen on homeschool chat boards elsewhere that are many times busier than here.

Considering that this entire board would not exist if it were not for the book exchanging that goes on here, I would hate to say anything to discourage those that are posting books here. It just seems out of place to me.

Sherry

Clearly I am not alone in my feelings about the matter.

I just think it's courteous to not hog the board with a big chunk of ad posts over and over again.

I don't think what's been suggested is out of the question. What's wrong with posting ONE thread with ALL the books one posts?

It would be easy enough for me to start enough new threads in this forum to ascertain that the conversation stays up top. Maybe I'll start more chat topics from now on.

Where is the rule posted that you can only post one time per day about  your books on the Book Bazaar ?

I did not know we are not supposed to be posting about what's on our bookshelf on these other boards. Can someone show me where that is posted also ?

I will probably not take the time to keep posting really speciall homeschool books on my bookshelf if we are stopped from annoncing them here because when I don't annonce them here they just continue to sit on my bookshelf which makes it a waste of my time to put t hem on there in the first place.

This is all becoming very upsetting I'm not a member of many homeschool forums because of people having conflicts over simple things like this. All anyone is asking is can we limit advertising your book shelf to one post a day. can we just all agree to that??

I just looked and there's been a total of 12 posts used today.  I don't think that we're talking about something that's really a problem.  I've been here a long time and I'd hate to see anyone not feel welcome or limited by someone self-imposing rules on everyone else.

I'm sure there are just as many people that may be "annoyed" at all the chit chat and maybe want that limited.  I don't think either group needs to be told to limit their posts.

Let's all just enjoy our forum and feel grateful that R&R have given it to us.  :)

Edited to fix #, because I can't count!  ;)

I found this in the help docs under discussion forums

Homeschoolers' Corner

  • Allows homeschoolers to gather and exchange information and ideas
  • Posting about books on your bookshelf is allowed in this Forum (to let others know that specific educational materials are available), but no deals may be offered here.

so apparently Sherry is allowed to post about books as long as she is not offering a deal .

and Sherry i also found this in the second message on the book bazzar topics it's called the book bazzar tour

General Rules in the Book Bazaar: (1) Members should post only one "bookshelf advertisement/"order from me" post per day. You can combine different genres into one post, or "spotlight" multiple books from your bookshelf in one topic.

and sherry you mentioned earlier that we weren't really using this site for chat so maybe we all just realized we do have things we would like to discuss and you are just taking it the wrong way.

Actually, I have no problem with people using this site for chat. I never said that.I've just noticed there's not a whole lot of it going on. But of course that is relative. I've been on other homeschool chat sites with hundreds of posts a day. I suppose that 's why I find the whining and complaining about just a few posts - whether for chat or book announcements - to be kind of childish and overly whinny.

I just do not enjoy coming on a site that is supposed to be about swapping books and there is complaining about literally only a handful of bookshelf type posts getting in the way of chatting. I don't see how looking through 4 or 5 posts to find another one is a "problem".  But then I've looked through dozens and dozens of posts on other sites to find one I've posted on.

Well, now that I know we cannot post deals on here I won't be anymore. But I will go to the Book Bazarr to do that.

I can't say I've enjoyed this thread. But I did find out not to post deals on here anymore.

LOL

That's fine with me, I suppose.

I post quite a bit in MULTIPLE FORUMS, every day.

FWIW, you're the only one getting bent out of shape over this otherwise very civil conversation. Oh, that's right....you're not reading this anymore. My mistake. ;)
