I posted this week the book - The Host by Stephenie Meyer (hardcover) and the ISBN: 978-0-316-06804-8.   I look to see that this book have many people on the wish list but for other ISBN numbers.  How do others now that a book they wish is available but not the same ISBN #?

There is an automatic email sent to members (unless you opt out of those emails) for books similar to what's on your wish list.

I will add a tag to the main listing. Something like "also under ISBN xxx".

The emails are triggered only if the books are linked. Any change or typo in the listing will prevent the books from linking.

Please remember that audio and Large Print versions will have wish lists for longer.

The problem with "books similar" is that sometimes they aren't really--I am looking for a book titled "The Making of The Phantom of the Opera" and it keeps telling me every time a copy of "The Phantom of the Opera" becomes available. :-(

There are already over 100 copies of that ISBN in the system. So my guess if the people on the WL for the other editions really want that edition.  The edition that has 45 wishers is for the large print book. That really isn't a lot of wishers, some books have several hundred in line for them, although large print often moves more slowly so maybe it is a lot.

Anyway, the people in that line really want/need the large print and not a regular edition or htey would have ordered it already.

You can tell how many copies of a book are in the system by putting it on your reminder list.

eta: the wish list versions with the 5 digit ISBNS are probably inactive accounts. Those 5 digit ISBNS  are supposed to be only 1 time use and so those lines don't move.  But people join and wish for every version  Once you've been here awhile you figure out that those 5 digit ISBN are only 1 time use and a waste of valuable WL spots.  So it's likely that the ones left are people who no longer keep up with their account.

Re: 5 digit ISBNS ...

5-digit ISBNs have not been assigned by the system for at least several years, and the so-called "short ISBNs" are currently 6 digits.

The system assigns arbitrary "short ISBN" numbers sequentially to all books posted without a true ISBN. So, for example, if a non-ISBN book is posted and is assigned the number 451250,  the next non-ISBN book posted will be assigned 451251, and then next will be 451252. The most recent numbers assigned by the system so far this week are in the 451400 to 451500 range. The rate at which the short ISBNs increase is directly related to the rate that non-ISBN books are posted.

I didn't notice that they were up to 6 numbers now.

I imagine some do get reposted either by the recipient using the transaction to repost the book or by people going against the rules.

But my point was that the OP'S book isn't really wish listed.  There a lot of that edition and also available copies of several editions.  The only ones that seem to be wish listed are the large print, those one-copy ISBNs, audio and a few stray editions.

I hope my post about 5- and 6-digit short ISBNs was not taken to be a criticism or quibbling about the previous poster's comments. I was simply taking the opportunity to point out that 5-digit ISBNs were assigned to books originally posted several years ago and that the newer short ISBNs are 6 digits. :-)

It wan't by me.  I just wanted to clarify why I mentioned the 5 digit ISBNS. I hadn't noticed that they gone up to 6.
