Why would a sender cancel a wish list book request? I have really wanted this book for a long time and I was so excited when my request was granted. I didn't even have any credits so I bought some just so I could get this book. Should i pm them to see if something happened or just let it go :( I am bumed I really wanted that book

If I was you, I would PM, whats the harm right? What book was it, just out of curosity.

Yesterday, I offered a few, than when I got back on the wishlists were cancelled, not sure what was up with that, a glitch maybe. oh well i'll just wait a few days and relist em.

Was it a new member? It could have been someone who just posted books for the free credits when joining and didn't plan to send any books out.

Or it could have been that they didn't realize it had a wish list and didn't have the money at this time to send it out.

I personally wouldn't send a PM but it won't hurt anything. Don't expect a response. If they cancel like that on a WL book, I doubt they'll be courteous enough to PM an explanation.

Yeah ur probably right! Maybe they spilled something on it or something, who knows! lol Maybe you'll get lucky and they will answer and tell you what happened, but who knows.

I had to cancel one recently, I think my first one. It wasn't supposed to be in that pile and I posted it as part of a post multiple ISBNS and just didn't notice the title (I checked the title, but I wasn't actually reading them, just doing a compare). I realized it as I was shelving it on my PBS shelf and tried to pull it, but it was on WL hold.

So it could have just been a mistake.  It isn't a good one, but there is no way to cancel a book that's on WL hold.  I wish there was, but there isn't.

(edited because one word didn't get typed in the middle of a sentance. It's there now.)

Most of the time when I have had a WL book posted and then cancelled, the person says something like, "I meant to post this directly to a buddy's list" or "I meant to add this to my TBR, not post it to the system, sorry!" A couple of times people have said that the book was somehow damaged after they posted it (they spilled on it or the dog ate it or whatever). You can PM if you want, but if they haven't got/weren't ready to post the book, it's really not going to make a difference. There is a spot on the cancellation screen to post a reason--if they didn't want to, that's their business I guess.

One time I had two WL books from the same member get cancelled because her husband "saw them and wanted to read them".  I'm wondering about that, though, because I'm in the #1 spot for them and they've not been posted since.  It's been since Sept. of /08, so he must be a very slow reader!

I've posted a book, then when I pulled it out to send, I noticed that it was damaged and unpostable.  But if that was a WL book, I'd have offered it as an unpostable.

I've posted a WL book and the system had some sort of hiccup and posted the book twice-offering it to 2 differnt people.  I'm not the only one this has happened too.

Things happen.  I reason would have been nice but people don't always give them.  I wouldn't PM either.  If they wanted to send you the book they wouldn't have cancelled.

I had to cancel one once when my step-mother died.  Getting that book in the mail was just not important.  But I did put a reason in when I cancelled.

I had to cancel an audio book recently.  It'd been on my shelf for almost a year, I knew exactly where it was in the house, then the day it got requested it turned up missing.  That was two weeks ago and I've still not found it.

I cancelled a request (non-wl) once because I couldn't find the book. I looked at every book on my bookcase (the good old days when I only had 1 full bookcase).  I ransacked the house even looking under couch cushions.

I found it a few weeks later on my bookshelf.

Hi, Amanda - it might have been me...well, I cancelled a WL book request Friday or Saturday and it had nothing to do with cheating the system or being rude - I had made a list of books to post and hadn't noticed the water damage (curling pages from reading at the beach), since this one was wedged in the middle of a stack of books... AND that was a highly WL'd book - so immediately after it was posted into the system, I couldn't pull it from my bookshelf since it was offered to first-in-line. I had to wait for the request to come through before I could cancel to get the (now) unpostable off my shelf and out of the system. Stuff happens sometimes, you know? I felt bad about it, and I will pull every book off the shelf and thoroughly inspect them so I don't do this again. And since it is highly WL'd, i posted the notice that I had it unpostable.  But please don't take it personally - if you were cancelled on, you keep your place in line. And if you wanted Ill Wind by Rachel Caine, I'm doubly-sorry and it's free with an order from my shelf!

Funny thing is, it's the only audio book in the entire house, so you'd think it would be obvious.  Oh well, if it turns up I'll repost it, then wait another year to see if it gets requested.  :)

I looked at the wishlist numbers and it looks like I am #2 so they must have canceled the first one too. And no Michelle it wasnt you. The book I have been wanting is a young adult book called "Life as we knew it" by Susan Beth Pfeffer ohh well maybe one day right! Thanks again everyone

Amanda - I'm still feeling guilty about not noticing that damage, so I'm glad it wasn't you I cancelled! Number 1 on the list might have had RC's that the book couldn't meet, which is why it was offered to you - if the offeror had cancelled Number 1, their book would have been deleted from their bookshelf.

I had one canceled on me yesterday by a newbie. I rarely get ticked off but this one ticked me off royally because it was a matter of not fully reading my one sentence RC.

She said she couldn't send it because it was a paperback (with 240 wishers and I'd finally made it to the top!!) and my RC said I wanted a hardback with a dustjacket. Duh. I am very explicit with that RC and say "IF" it's a hardback .... There is no mistaking what my RC says if you read the entire sentence.

And besides, I must've caught it just as it was posted to me because  I sent her a PM saying "Thank you!!!"  Next thing I know she cancels it because my RC says I want a hardbacks with dustjacket and this book is "just a paperback." Now why would I say thank you if I didn't want the book? Another duh!

I sent her another PM and told her to please next time finish reading the entire RC before hitting cancel.

Anyhow, the good news is I have another one winging it's way to me! :) So my being ticked off was short-lived.

I just had another one cancel today.  I accepted the offer, it was a W/L of mine.  Then I got an PM from the sender saying she wanted 3 credits for the two books.  She didnt understand both books went to two different ppl.  She paid $11 for one book, so she needed 3 credits for 2 books !  I gently let her know that was against PBS rules.  1 credit 1 book.  She said fine and withdrew all her books !

Susan,

Maybe you could change your RC to state the IF part first in the sentence. Or just turn it off when not ordering hardbacks. It's an honest mistake and one there was a whole discussion over a week or so ago.

I had one cancelled on me the other day and the sender said that the system had a glitch and posted the same book to her shelf 3 times. She felt really bad that she had to turn it down on 2 people. But at least she told me why she was cancelling!

My problem is that people post WL books but then don't accept the request, so they time out.  I have a WL book that will time out in a couple hours after waiting 5 days for the member.  It's a relatively heavy posted book, so I am sure another offer will come in today, but it sucks that people behind me in line have most likely received offers and their books have been sent while I wait around for a crap "sender" to accept the request.  If there was something wrong with the book, fine - cancel the request and I'll move on to the next person.  If you can't mail it right now, fine - cancel and repost some other day when you can.  Just don't pull me out of line for 5 days.

I always figure that the ones who never respond to the WL acceptance is no longer interested in PBS.  They just abandoned their membership and bookshelf.  This is the main way abandoned memberships are found and cancelled.  OTOH - it could be that person was unable to get to a computer for differing reasons in real life.  Things happen to us all.

I was thinking that something fishy is going on. Within a few days, I was offered a book a book three times and the members declined (well, I declined the book the third time). Supposedly, it was listed by two different people, and I seriously don't think I was even number 1 on the list at that point (this was for Breaking Dawn). I checked out the profiles of these people, who had nothing on their wishlists and nothing on their bookshelves. Today I was offered another book from my wishlist that is an extremely rare book, with the same problem. When checking their profile right after it was offered to me, it says his account is on hold and there's nothing on his bookshelf/wishlist. Am I missing something, or could it be possible that there's been a legitimate problem with the last 3 books I've had offered to me in the past month and a half?
