I put a book on my wishlist that hasn't come out in stores yet. I just noticed that my wishlist  says that "1 wish granted last week." How could this be when the book isn't available?

Is it coming out soon? Maybe a reviewer had a copy or something.

Most books don't have a hard sell date (books that do tend to be really really popular, like Harry Potter) so books can be on the shelf before the official release date.

I noticed that on Echo too. I assumed it was one of the members we have around here that work with publishers. Since we are within 2 weeks of the book coming out, I would guess there are completed copies going around the publisher's and author's offices by now. Also, a few times stores have the boxes of books well in advance and employees put them out before their actual release date.

I had that happen to me a few weeks back, the book was posted but wasn't due for release until about 3 weeks later. I PM'd the member to confirm that the book was NOT an ARC and if it was would she please cancel as it was not a postable book. She did cancel (never PM'd me though) so it must've been, I guess.

It is possible it could be a book that was released early, but I think I would PM to check if I got a book come up that wasn't officially released yet. That is the third time in the past few months that I've had pre-release books posted and when queried, the sender admitted they were ARCs. ARCs seem to be a lot easier to get these days so they're much more common than in the past, I think.

I  had one posted to me a month before Amazon showed as the release date. Because I have everything set to AR and didn't see the request before the label was printed I was a little worried. I PM'd the sender anyway, and she told me it was a selection of the month for a book club she belongs to. I also just had one posted to me over the weekend with a 10/6 release date. I'm interested to see if it's the same situation.

Could go either way Jessie...within a week or two of release date, could be legit.  Sometimes early posted books are ARC's (unpostable).   IMO you wouldn't be unreasonable to pm the sender whether she got lucky with an early release, or a gentle reminder that ARC's can be traded but not through FIFO.

Lori - I'm completely clueless, thought book club editions were usually hardback?  Did you request the hardback edition, or was the book not mmpb originally?

The one I got last time was a mmp. It was the only way it was being released. The one that's on it's way to me is supposed to be a MMP. We'll see when I get it. Should be in a day or so based on the DC.

I had a pre-order in with BN.com for a book.  They shipped it to me 2 weeks before the release date.  I was so happy, I'd been eagerly waiting the release.  Only down side was I had it read and wanted to discuss it with friends and none of them had their hands on it yet.

Thanks for the answer to my clueless question!  I've seen mention of bookclub editions that are hardback stepchildren, and occassionally RC'd because they are not the regular publishers edition.

I belong to a book clue and get my mmpb's about a week before they're in the stores.  They are coming from the publisher so I just figure they're sending them out a bit ahead to make sure people get them by the release date.  I've pre-ordered books through Amazon and received them early too.
