Some of the nooks I put in our on hold (reserved). It says "Waiting 48 hrs. to see if this person still wants this book." Do I need to PM them or will the PBS system do that for me? Also how do I get only my first name and last initial to show?

Yes, the system will send an email to them letting them know the book is available, and then they can say they want the book or not.
