So, I am wondering how this happened.  I posted a book maybe a month ago and it was not on WL hold at that time.  So, it sat on my shelf without any takers until about a week ago when suddenly it went into WL hold.  And has been there ever since - it has gone through three 48 hour cycles at this point with no takers.

So my questions are:

1.  How does a book go from no takers for a month to at least 3 people WL'ing it?

2.  Is it truly being offered to 3 different people, or is the book being offered to one person who keeps re-adding it after it times out?

3.  If it's a person who keeps re-adding it, how do I get them to stop?  Obviously, since the book is in WL hold, it's invisible to everyone else.

Thanks for anyone's help!

Lisa

You can check to see if it's the same person who keeps ordering it by going into your transaction archive and clicking the PM button next to the book you're asking about. The name of the person will come up there. If it's going from one person to the next  then there will be 2 or 3 names.

Hi Lori - Thanks for that suggestion, however, because the member(s) isn't responding to the request, the book history never makes it into my transaction archive.  Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

Go to your bookshelf, click on the book and the next screen will have the book with its description. It should show the number of people wishing for the book.

Actually, you don't have to go into your transaction archive.  Look at the message where it says it's on hold waiting for approval, and you will see a PM link on the top right of the screen.  Click on that and you can see who the system is waiting on.

Reserved On: 10/14/07 9:40 AM ET Status: Waiting 48 hours for other member to confirm that they still want this book.

I tried to copy & paste it, but I'm having problems.  Anyway, look for the PM button at the top right just above where is says "Reserved On" in bold.

I don't understand why it's on a wishlist hold at all--if it was posted to your bookshelf for 3 weeks and someone wanted it, why wouldn't it just be a requested book?

What probably happened is that the book was on someone's WL, but they had their account on hold.  When their account came off of hold, the book went to WL hold.  I've noticed that sometimes books that only have 1 WLer sit in limbo for a few days longer than books that have other members in line to be offered to.   This book probably only has the 1 WLer, since it was sitting on your shelf before this hold.  IF the book would have been offered to more than one member, with members declining or timing out, the record of the members who declined or timed out would appear in your transaction history.  Since there is nothing in your transaction history, the book has to still be waiting for the first (and probably only) person on the WL to respond.  Even if the first person would have cancelled and reordered more than once, again each cancellation would appear in your transaction history.

I bet what happened is that someone had their account on hold & the account came off of hold because it reached the date they had selected for the hold to come off, but the member still hasn't checked into his/her account.

I would have agreed with this before yesterday, but now I'm confused. I posted a book yesterday afternoon that triggered two WL holds, both of which were apparently declined a short time later. But nothing shows in my transaction history. Is this maybe because the book was declined within the one-hour "buyer's remorse" window? At any rate, no one else has the book WL'd and it'son my shelf now.

Added:  I don't think it can be the one-hour window that stopped the transaction information, because I looked at another transaction on my list, which shows an order at 10:22am and a cancellation at 11:06am the same day.

Well, I know it has been offered more than once (to the same person or different people, I'm not sure) because the date keeps getting updated.  Next to the book, it says this:

"Reserved On: 10/13/07 11:00 PM ET Status: Waiting 48 hours for other member to confirm that they still want this book."

But two days prior, the "reserved on" date was 10/11/07.  And two days prior to that (when this first started) the date was 10/9/07.

Still nothing about this book shows up in the transaction archive.

Charlie - I tried your suggestion, and under members wishing, it says "0".  So, now I'm really confused and might go ahead and email R&R as it must be a glitch?

It is possible that it has run through all the people who had it on WL, since you say it was listed as reserved/declined 3 separate times.

Does your Bookshelg still have a grey icon to the left of the book? If not, it is no longer on anyone's WL.
