I have a question about the wish list count.  I put a book on the wish list last week, and I was # 7.  I checked back, and I was #9 of 11 - just checked now and I was 18 of 21???  How do I keep getting bumped in the wish list - I thought it went in order.

Most likely some members had their accounts/the book on on hold and when they took it off hold they went back into their original position. A book going to someone might have been lost in the mail or received with a problem. So again they go back to their original position.

Last week was a major travel week.  A lot of members probaby had their accounts on hold for the Holiday  week.  Then factor in timed out requests, books lost in the mail and RWP-s and there's your WL fluctuation.

Sounds like quite a bit of traveling backwards in line, even adjusting for accounts on hold for the holiday.  Suppose it depends on the book tho, I'd be tempted to ask TPTB to check on a wl position that moved 11 spots in a few days...that's 150%.

OTOH, I've yet to hear of an instance where moving backwards in wl line is anything but legit...the PBS system works very well.

It is a newly published book, so I can see lots of people wishing it. Thanks for explaining the bookshelf on hold thing. I was just shocked to go from 7th to 18th in less than a week.

I didn't have this problem... I just had a bad 2 weeks wherein none of my WL'd books advanced at all.  No wishes granted for any of the 200 books!  Talk about depressing.  This morning 4 have moved a little.  Makes me feel better!  ;D

Be hopeful that with the holidays and some members will recieve WL books as gifts.  Hopefully, they'll remove the titles from their WL in a timely manner or at least cancel when they get offered the book.

It was my birthday last week and I got 4 WL books as gifts - yeah. I also bought 2 WL books for my DH as a gift as I knew I wouldn't reach No 1 in time. I deleted all 6 from my WL, so others further down the line will have been bumped up.

I've also posted WL books that have been rejected or timed out by 3-4 members before it gets accepted and I can mail.  So being 18 in line might be closer to the No.1 than you think.

Just an update - I checked and now I am 17 of 41 - so my place in line is going down - Yeah!

Happy Christmas everyone.

Actually there are quite a lot of members here. 82,015 public profiles and that doesn't tell the full membership my estimate is generall the same amount of people without a public profile. 11 places in one day wouldn't surprise me with numbers like that.
