I just got a request and then noticed a flaw in the book and had to cancel.  If there had been any way to contact the requestor, I could have suggested they order something else from my shelf, and I'd send them that book as an unpostable freebie.

Couldn't you contact them with a PM?

Not without accepting the request first.

Just a thought, don't know if this would work but, when you cancel you have to put a reason..don't you?  well if you do then you could I think  include a note that you'd send free with another order and put how to contact...then that would show up in the PM to the requestor.  Not for sure if this would work, just a thought...

I may be wrong about this, but I had the impression that that note only goes to PBS, not to the requestor.

So why not accept the request first, then send the PM?  That is exactly what you would do if you had accepted the request and then noticed the damage, and you can cancel just as easily after accepting.

Because the wrath of the forums would come down on my head! :-)

And this is all kind of missing the point.  Why should we have to do all these torturous work-arounds instead of simply being able to contact the person?

Just a thought... won't the canceled order show up in your transaction archives?  If it does, you could possibly PM him/her and offer to send the book for free with the request of another book.
