How Do I post a book directly to someone's Wish List?

If you have a book that is on someone's personal Wish List and you'd like to post  that book directly to that member (and NOT to the first person on the Wish List), here's how:

Go to the member's Wish List, locate the book you want to post to them and click the button there.  Be sure the ISBNon your book matches the ISBN on his or her Wish List!

  • Your book will be offered to that member first, no matter where she/he is in the Wish List for that book.
  • If that member does not request the book, it will then be offered to the first person on the wish list and continue to be offered until someone requests it or until it is Posted into the general library.

Thanks Denise this was awesome.

Ummmm, just curious...why does it say that this is for paranormal WL books?

Thanks Lori!  I think it's a great idea to put instructions so that newer members undrestand what this thread is for- thanks for doing that!

"The main purpose of this thread is to offer books in multiples in order to save on shipping costs."

What? Since when?

"What? Since when?"

I've been puzzling over that myself, Willa. In fact, I've never seen this statement before on this thread. That's what the Wishlisted Multiples Only thread in the Book Bazaar is for.

I've just started lurking in here in the past month or so, and thought I might add my 2 cents on Willa's question:  what other reason would there be for listing multiples?  Totally not trying to be sarcastic here, it just never occurred to me that there might be any other reason for doing it.  Maybe it's just my newbie ignorance, and if so, sorry.  blush

Whitney, asking for multiple requests has gained popularity over the last year. It wasn't alway that way on this forum, and it wasn't the main reason this forum was started. Besides, I remember a time when members were getting a little sore about so many others asking for multiples requests only.

Ok, I understand.  So then would it be accurate to say the this thread exists as a courtesy to other L&R readers?

several months ago there was a rather long discussion about this.  what different people liked and did not like.  I think the concensus from that was :

1. you cant ask for wishlist books cause that is against PBS rules

2. when you post books to offer you should be clear on what you want.  do require a multiple order? do you want a pm or post in thread? etc

I think the OP for this month is trying to be helpful, but I think #1 is the only rule and #2 makes sense to let people know what to expect from you.

So would the long time people who've posted here (I'm a newbie as well - to the thread, not to PBS) prefer that those of us who like multiples requested post in the Book Bazaar then?

I think its fine to say you want to mail out multiples (and let us know what that amount is) but I don't think its a requirement.  Some of us are happy to send out singles.  You should spell that our in your post though.

"...The main purpose of this thread is to offer books in multiples in order to save on shipping costs..."   ...  "What? Since when?"  +3 (or 4)

I post books here when I want to mail quickly and not wait for long holds and roll-overs.  As Ani mentions, multiples are nice but not required. Only one of the options available to members who offer books here.

I think Lori just accidently copied from the paranormal thread or something, because this morning it had - Paranormal Books Only and several of us told her she had that in the wrong thread.  Just pm her and tell her to fix it.

My guess is that the OP was copied/pasted from somewhere else where these guidelines are in place- perhaps Lori can clarify.  But no, I don't think it should be a requirement to be offering multiples.  This thread was started here in the first place as a place for us to post WL books and know that they are going to be accepted right away, rather than go through several rounds of 48 hour waiting periods for people to accept the offers.  That does not have to change, though it is fine if posters want to state that they want to mail multiples.

Yep, sorry guys did just copy and paste.  I thought the info that Denise had supplied was of value.  I always thought that it was so multiples could be sent, but it has never been required.  If, I am mistaken, I apologize.  I was not trying to offend anyone, just to help.  I will remove that statement.

No offense taken, and I hope no one took offense at what I said, either.  Just trying to understand how things work.

I usually write that multiples are preferred when I post here, mainly because money is very tight (as it is for most people) and if I can save on postage, I'm happy.  Why would I want to send out one book for $3.00 when I can mail out two for $3.39?   But I also like to post my books here so that a) I am giving them (usually) to a love & romance forum friend and b) I don't usually have to wait days for the request to be accepted.

I honestly don't understand why people are upset when someone specifies that they prefer multiples.  Maybe not everyone has extra credits rolling around, but for someone to try and save money, why not?  I will say, though, that I don't "require" multiples, and that I have been known to give preference to the first request, the person with a book on their WL the longest, etc.  I figure, hey, it's my book, I can decide who to post it to, right?  lol   It's not a competition, so for people to get mad about the way someone gets rid of their own books is just crazy to me!

Back to the original question, though - I think this thread was started to help out Love & Romance forum posters to share their books with other "friends" and to avoid the FIFO waiting game.  If someone wants to request multiples or give first come, first serve, that's their business.  I don't think it was ever the intention that this be for listing multiple WL books - as alread stated, that's what the Wish Listed multiples in the book bazaar forum is for.

Lori Z.,

I don't think you are mistaken because I have a very detailed memory of a thread that was started with for wl multiples only.  In the first post it was explained that PBS had given special permission  to go around the FIFO system only because so many people were short of funds and postage had increased and that we had to be careful to use it only for that it or might go away.  There were even rules as to how the entries had to be laid out, i.e. the ISBN had to be linked to the page in PBS,  the number of WL-ers had to be given, and it had to specify if more than 2 multiples were required/requested.  But I will be darned if I can find that entry.!! I will look some more tonigt when I get home from work.  Since I only look at L&R and paranormal formums, it has to be there someplace.  Just my 2 cents worth.

As has been pointed out this the above is in the Book Bazaar not here.
