I've noticed a couple of times now that when I add a book to my wishlist, there are suddenly more people waiting for it than there were when I was on the book page. For example, a book I added just a few minutes ago had 104 wishers; then, after I added it, I went to my wishlist page and checked my position in the line, and I was number 114. I can't imagine that ten people added the book in the time (less than a minute) between going to the book page and adding the book to my list. I'm not trying to complain - ten extra people obviously doesn't make that much of a difference (and I've got such a huge TBR pile that even a much longer wait than that wouldn't be a big deal). I'm just curious as to what would cause this, especially since it's happened more than once.

I think the counters are counting different things. The larger number probably includes people who are on vacation hold.

Well, there are over 1,000 members online now.  That extra 10 includes you plus anyone who may have taken their account off vacation hold, plus other people who may have been looking it up the same time as you.

That sort of relates to the question I had.   Just last week I tagged some of my books with my place in line for that book.   I wanted to see if any of them are actually getting posted and there is movement in line.

I just checked and one that I was 38 last week I am now at  40.   Hmmm...  why would I go back in line?

Would the vacation holds or other books on hold affect that?

Vacation holds would affect your place in line.  Right now my account is on hold.  It's holding my place in line.  As my WL books get posted it'll keep offering the book to the person behind me, moving up the rest of the line. But when I take my account off hold, everyone will move back a space.  It happens everytime I take my account off hold to post a WL book.  Everyone moves back a space.  When I put it back on hold, everyone moves back up a space.  So with thousands of members-it's possible to continually move up and down a list but over all you should continually move up if the book is getting posted regularly.

Another thing that affects it is deals falling through-people not marking books mailed, books going lost and books being marked RWP and the requestor getting put back at the top of the line.

OK now I feel really silly.

Uh ......  I WAS at 40 now I am at 38..... I had it backwards.

Ya' all can just ignore me now.

I guess the good news is either the book is being posted or some people dropped the wish.
