How do I wishlist an unpublished book? I have an ISBN number from Amazon, and it will come out this Spring. When I put it in the PBS system, I just get a note saying the book couldn't be found. I am on the WL for several books that have not been published yet, but this is apparently the first one nobody else has WL'd first.

Make sure the search is NOT searching Posted Books (for obvious reasons, a book can't be posted if it hasn't been published, yet.)

I have unpublished books on my WL. It is possible.

Cheers!

Also, you can search for the author's name, click on the author's name (the blue hyperlink) and it will bring you to the author's page on PBS. Links in green are available in PBS, links in red are not yet available in PBS. Many times, I'll find the unpublished book in the red links, even if searching by ISBN didn't work.

Good luck!

Yeah, I tried all that. I was thinking there had to be some way to add a book to the list. Someone has to be number 1, right? Oh, well. Thanks anyway Melissa!

If you want, PM me the ISBN, and I will try to find it & use the "suggest to a friend" option.

When I WL unpublished books, I search by ISBN. If nothing comes up, I wait a half hour or so and it almost always shows up when I search again. I believe this is because it has to get the info from the database.

Using this method I have been able to get on the WL at #1 almost a year before books are published.

I've had ISBNs pop up immediately when I search for them.  Don't do Advanced Search, just put the ISBN into the search box at the top corner of this page and see if that does it.  Usually, if it's in the Amazon database it'll add to the system just that quick.  If it doesn't, just keep trying because it soon will.

I haven't had the problem yet either although I do have several upcoming books on my WL.  I'm #1 on seveal of them.  I do tend to go to the search on "All books" and it has always come up.  Once there is someone on the WL for it - it will show up on searches - at least in my experience it hsd!

If you can get the ISBN# on an upcoming release from an author's website, etc. then do at least one advanced search on "all books" in the PBS system, and then put it on your saved searches list and go back & run that search every so often until it shows up.  Keep searching Amazon's database until they have it listed there as well.  Once it matches a product in their database, I find that they usually go into the PBS database after at least one subsequent search for it here has been run.

Occasionally what I have to do if the book won't come up in search is to go to the TBR pile, click on "add book to TBR" and then type the ISBN in there. Oddly enough, most of the time when I can't find the book any other way (including by ISBN, searching by author, title, posted and unposted books, etc etc)  it will bring the book up that way and I add it to the TBR, then find it on the TBR and click on the book's details and from there click "add to wish list." I had to do that the other day with a book that isn't due out til way next fall.

I actually re-did the search after adding it to the TBR, but it still didn't show up, even an hour later. You would think after I had added it to myTBR that doing another search on it would bring the book up, but no! The only way I could actually get the book on my WL was from my TBR. I had actually gotten the ISBN in the first place from Amazon, so I've no idea why it wouldn't come up on a search here. Weird stuff sometimes.

Cheryl, that's brilliant!  Nothing like finding your way around a problem!  I read a lot of fiction so I go to fantasticfiction.com and can look at the authors' books and the "coming soon" and the other features.  I get most of my ISBN's for upcoming books that way.  I then click on the Amazon link to that book just to make sure it's on there.  Then I come to PBS and do the search for it.  So far I've only had one book that didn't show up on Amazon and so I knew it wouldn't show up on PBS.

That's not working for me, but I did send a request to Amazon that they add the ISBN# on the book I want to put on WL into their database, and they emailed me back & let me know they would be adding it asap, so hopefully it will be available to put on WL here soon after.  Trying to put it on TBR here returns a message that it's a valid ISBN# but not in the PBS database.

Janelle thanks for the suggestion to check back later!  I've added several books to my wishlist successfully now!  :)

If you want to find upcoming fiction books  - you can go to Fantasticfiction.com and look there.  It's a UK site - but has links to Amazon with USA editions and ISBN's.  I find a lot of my future books there. I don't know how to find non-fiction books.
