PBS says I can't post it on here. I don't really understand why. So into the donation pile it goes.

that book has an odd situation. There is an older edition paperback that has about 18 people wishing for it. Then there is a newer edition paperback that has over 100 copies available for request.

Just because the book has a W on it, doesn't mean it is on Wish List Hold (it would be on your Wish List Hold tab and not on your Bookshelf). Likely the W means that someone out there Wish Listed it and then put that wish on Hold while there was still a WL line. Then enough copies were posted that it is now available (over 100 copies). I can see your copy on your Bookshelf and it is available for request. It just isn't getting requested yet because you only recently posted it so you are behind many of the other 104 people with a copy available in the FIFO line.

I didn't just recently post it. I posted it in July. It sat there for seven months with a pink W and was never requested. So I removed it from my bookshelf and reposted  it a few days ago it because I thought it was some kind of glitch. I was hoping reposting would make the pink W go away. But it didn't make any difference.

7 months is too long for a book to be on hold. I think something is messed up with the system

Gayle - the Light Pink W (LPW) against a book doesn't mean that the book has been 'on hold' for 7 months. It just means that someone out there (probably someone who abandoned their account instead of closing it) wanted the book, so the LPW shows up. It doesn't mean that someone else can't request it.

There could be a book posted that has 10, 15, 100 copies in the system, and again if someone abandoned their account, but had requested the book at sometime, the LPW would show up, but the book will (after the obligatory waiting period for WLed books to be requested) would go into the system as a regularly posted book, but the LPW would remain.

Your book is not on any type of Hold on your Bookshelf (I can see it on your Bookshelf and am able to request it directly from you). The faded W just means someone out there has the book on their Wish List, but it was on hold on their Wish List when the book switched over from being wish listed to being available and is not an active wish/order and may or may not convert to a request for the first person in line with a copy. You are just not getting a request because you have not reached the first spot in the FIFO line yet.

7 months though. That doesn't seem right. Like I said before, the book was posted with the pink W for 7 months. I find it hard to believe that there were that many inactive accounts that didn't respond to the wishlist notification.

The account with the formerly wishlisted book had that book on hold (not their account), so there weren't any wishlist notifications as it. It sounds like the book came off hold at 7 months and that member likely got one of the 104 posted copies of that book or the member noticed the book was available with hundreds of copies and freed up a wishlist spot and will order a copy when ready to leave.

It could easily take over 7 months for 100 copies of a book to get requested.  The faded pink W means the Wish is on Hold, which means no one is getting any notifications about the postings of the books. It is really the equivalent to no wishes out there, but the Wish is in the system so the notition is still there.

It doesn't mean the accounts are inactive, just that the Wish is on hold. I have quite a few books on my Wish List on Hold that were put on Hold over a year ago when I moved and have went to being available to order since.
