I've checked the help docs but I'm still a little confused. The other day I listed a bunch of wishlisted books. All but one got requested and I mailed them off. One is still on 48-hour wishlist hold. I will not be able to mail anything next week so I've put my account on vacation. This, however, if I'm reading it correctly does not affect the book on wishlist hold, because it was in process before I put my account on vacation.

I think I remember from other people's questions that there's a way to keep this book from rolling over to the next wishlister when it times out, but I cannot find how to do that or what it's called.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

When you put your account on vacation hold it will keep it from rolling to the next wishers after the 48 hr hold is up.  Just remember to delete it from your bookshelf before you come off vacation hold if you don't want it going to another wisher.

It will not roll over with the vacation hold.  But the current 48 hour hold has to expire before the vacation hold takes effect.

That said, you do have options to extend the mailing period.  Selecting the last possible mailing date after waiting to the end of the acceptance time.  Then another 48 hours to actually mail after marking it mailed.

Deadlines:

Here is a list of deadlines associated with the PBS swapping process:

  • A sender has 5 days* to respond to a request.
    • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail in the next 2 days", a sender has 5 days to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the fifth day.

    • After accepting a request by clicking "I can mail later" and choosing an alternate mailing date, a sender has 2 days beyond the alternate mailing date to mark the book mailed. The deadline is at the end of the second day.
  • A requestor has 48 hours to respond to an offer of a book from her Wish List.
  • A book has 26 days from the "mailed" date to get to its destination within the contiguous US before it is declared "lost in the mail" at PBS.
  • A book sent from or to outside the contiguous US (AK, HI, GU, VI, PR, APO/FPO/DPO, etc)  has 35 days from the "mailed' date to get to its destination.

Thanks, both of you. The 48 hour hold expired and it appears not to have rolled over, and I'm still on vacation. Wish that PBS would revise their help docs, because the way they are written is not clear at all.
