There are two parts to this book. An imagined trip to "pagan" times by a couple from the present which is pretty much fun (over half the book). Then there is this ponderous apologia for the mess that Christianity created. This is an almost painful trip down the "they really, really like me" and "jesus really does exist and everything is ok, just keep your eyes closed" path to try and explain why it became dominate. It then stops, like it ran out of space (or, was edited for you conspirisy nuts). Subtle, but I think the author tempered his conclusions because whoever gave him a grant, probably says holly-u-ya for breakfast.
