A very well-written, poignant book. Deals realistically with the ravages of Alzheimer's as well as the complexities of family. Absolutely recommend it.

A work of fiction that reads like a memoir. An amusing story of 40-something Jeanne who moves home to care for her mother who is failing with Alzheimer's. A very good book that will make you grateful for your own life.

Sad but true: life with Alzheimers is more painful for the family than the victim. Vivid portrayal of just how bad it is. This book is very well written and an engaging read.

Anyone that knows or loves an Alzheimer's patient will love this book. I kept laughing and crying and saying this could be my life with my mother...if only I would move over a thousand miles to live with her!

A sad but funny story of how a middle aged woman copes with taking care of her aging mother who has alzheimers...I enjoyed this book.

A good story with no glossing over any of the ugly sides of Alzheimer's. Not as funny as I had hoped, in fact much of the story is sad in the soul searching way, which is promoted on the back cover. This is a book you can pick up and put down without feeling any anxiety.

"Welcome to Auletta, Louisian, where the typical bumper sticker reads: God, Guns, and Guts Made This Country Great. Unfortunatley for Jeanne Roth, a middle-aged woman with no taste for backwater towns, Auletta becomes her new home when she makes good on a promise to her dying father to care for her mother. When Jeanne learns that her mama has Alzheimer's she must confront a past bursting with memories of her mama, a once vibrant femme fatale. As she watches mama's grace and charm slowly slip away, Jeanne is forece to reflect on her own goals and find a new hero to look up to. A poignant, often hilarious story of one woman's journey toward self-discovery and confidence, this is a timely tale that shows there are no dead ends in life- only long roads."

OK. This is a good book but I think I just could not get into it because I had just read two other similar books. I would not pick it up again, but it was well written and interesting.
