I like to write reviews, and prefer to write them while the book is fresh in my mind.  The last two reviews I wrote, though, once I was done with the review, my book was gone! It went straight to the BIR list and then I had to either put them back on my TBR list until I wanted to post it, or re-post it to my bookshelf.   Before, I could manage my TBR, write a review and then leave it there until I was ready to post it.   Just extra steps that I wasn't expecting and it turned out to be rather a pain in the backside!

Anyway, I'm not one to vent much but what PITA!    The reason I sometimes wait to post it is that I've got my shelf on hold and if it's a WL book I want to make sure I've got the postage $$ ready once I take the shelf off hold.

Anyone else experience this and/or is there a way I don't lose my book to the BIR?

Wait...just because a book is one your BIR list doesn't mean it's on your shelf....and obviously you read it as you wrote a review.

No, it wasn't on my bookshelf after I wrote the review, I checked it, and even signed out, refreshed and went back. It just disappeared from my TBR list.  I think what happened is I rated the book, which allows you to put it on the BIR list and after I wrote the review, it moved it there because it was now a rated book.  Next time I review a book, I'll wait to rate it and see if it happens again.

it seems to me that if you have read and written a review that the book will go directly to your BIR list.  Why would you want it on your TBR list when its already been read?

maybe i'm confused....;-/

Because it's easier to post from your TBR list, maybe?   I don't use either, but it sounds like she posts books to her shelf from trade from her TBR list.  So she likes them staying on TBR during the "transition" period between TBR and posted.

I think maybe they should add a post this book button to the BIR list?  Makes sense, since if you haven't read it yet, you probably won't post it until you do.  They kind of do have it a bit backwards.

What I usually do is go to my BIR list, click on the title and post from there.  An extra step, but it's too confusing to put a book I've already read on a list of books to read, for me anyway.

"Next time I review a book, I'll wait to rate it and see if it happens again."   I just wrote a review and it won't let you post the review until you rate the book.         I don't like their moving our books from one list to another for any reason.  I think that is up to us to do and there should be that option.                             OK - sometimes there is a reason, such as you refuse a wishlisted book, it moves it to your reminder list.   But in general, they should let us be the decider in what list we want our books on.

I wrote a couple of reviews from my TBR list last night.  You're right, they do disappear from the TBR list and end up on the BIR list.  But these books are still on my bookshelf under "Books on hold".  I just have to check those books when I'm ready to post and click on the "post" button.

Kayote got it right! I do like to leave my books on my TBR until I'm ready to post and I post them from there. I just don't like the idea of them moving my books, I guess. I've got my own system and it works for me :)    I just like having the book on my TBR until it's been posted because I use it as a sort of organizer for books that I haven't put into my bookshelf bin yet.  At a glance, I know what's in my TBR pile and what's not in my Bookshelf bin :)
