Here's a first for me (but I'm sure it's happened to others), I received a different title entirely than what I requested on a recent swap.  I PM'd the member and got no response and then marked the book RWAP, Wrong Book.  My question is, who loses the credit in this case?

The help center says not to mark wrong books received if it is a totally different title. So you might be out a credit if the sender doesn't return your credit.

If you received a book you did not request (not just the wrong version of a book you DID request but a title you do not recognize), you should NOT mark the book received - you should PM the sender as described in I received a book I didn't request!.

  • this may have been a mixed-up request and can be easily rectified.

In this case, unless the other member returns your credit, you are the one to lose your credit since you marked the book received.  You shouldn't have.  Wrong book is for the wrong ISBN or binding but the same story you wanted.  If you get an entirely wrong book that you didn't request, then you don't mark anything received at all.

Hopefully the sender gets in touch with you soon and either gets you the correct book or at least returns your credit.

If the member continues to not respond to you, mark followup from your Transaction Archive after 5 days indicating that you received no response. If you still don't hear anything after another 2 days (a week total from when you marked it RWAP) then contact the Team and they may help you out. Hopefully this member just switched two labels and will work with the receivers to get the correct books to them.

In the future, you should not mark totally wrong books as received. The Help Center document you want to read is I received a book I didn't request!

Thanks, everyone!  I did read the Help doc. but not correctly, my fault!  I PM'd the sender and waited maybe two days and then marked the book received (wrong book).  This probably isn't a big problem, but if it ever happens again, I'll know what to do.

You really should follow up and report them if they are unresponsive though. It's against the rules to ignore messages about transactions, especially in this situation.

I agree with the folks who are telling you to wait five days, mark it "no response from sender" (you'll add that follow-up in your transactions archive, which is on your My Account menu) then wait 2 or 3 more days and go down to the bottom right corner of any page, and under "company" click on "contact us."  Use the Feedback option to let the Admin Team that you have heard back from her.  Normally we're supposed to sort out problem transactions ourselves, but the Admin Team will step in if a member isn't responding.

In the past year it seems that has happened to quite a few people,  but it seems that it's usually the case where someone mailed out multiple packages at the same time, and mixed up which book went with which address label!  We all just need to be extra careful when/if we get a bunch of requests around the same time.  After getting only 40 requests in my first year here, suddenly in January I got over 30 books requested! Yep, I checked and double checked the printouts before I wrapped each package!

Hi all, just an update:  The sender contacted me today and apologized for the mix-up.  She said she would send me the correct book.  Unfortunately, when I mess up I do it big time, I guess!  This particular book went back on my wish list and I got offered another copy right away.  Of course I accepted it!  So I think I have learned a lot and that in the scheme of things this is a very small problem to have!  I told the sender not to worry, I don't need another copy (I am in that biggest book loser challenge, you see!).

Jeanne - so true about multiple orders!  I can easily see how mix-ups happen.  Congrats to you for the run on your bookshelf!
