I ordered two quilting books both from the same sender.  I received one book today from the sender today and it is not the book I ordered.  It's is a quilting book but not the two I wanted.  What do I do?  I don't want to be out two credits and I don't want  this particular book.  It was probably meant for someone else.  My theory is he got the order mixed up.  Do I just wait the full time and let the system take care of it?  In the meantime I have a book in my possession that is meant for someone else.  I don't want to lose my place in line for the other two books.  I waited a long time for one of them.

You have a couple of options here, you can just PM the sender to let him know the problem and find out if he mixed up packages and work with him to get to get the address of the other member, postage reimbursement and get the books switched so each of you get the correct packages. When you get the correct books, then you mark them received. 

You could mark one of the books as Received - Problem Wrong book/wrong title and that will give you the ability to send the PM and it would NOT transfer the credit or mark the book received. Since the shipment is a 2 book shipment and you'd have to go through splitting it to mark one received and not the other, I'd recommend just PM the person from the transaction.

If the sender just can't or isn't going to fix the problem, or the other receiver refuses to forward your books on, the sender can contact the site to let them know he messed up the shipping and ask them to cancel the transaction or you can wait for it to be marked lost. The site won't cancel it on the receiver's request, only the sender's so he'd have to do it for you.

I would not mark anything received but PM the sender about the problem to find out what happened to the books you ordered.  Maybe they still have them.

If they want their incorrect book back or want you to forward it on to the correct person, then make sure you get a credit or postage money up front.

If the sender doesn't answer you or make things right, then you don't ever mark these books received and you will get your credits back when they get marked lost in the mail.

If you received a book whose title you don't recognize (you did not request any version of this book), read below:

  • If this was a single-book shipment, the book you received may have been requested by another member, who may have gotten your book.   It is also possible that the sender reprinted a wrapper she or he used to send you a book in the past, and sent this book to you instead of to its proper requestor. 
  • If this is a multiple-book shipment, the sender may have sent you a book (or books) intended for another member, or may have mixed up a Box-O-Books shipment. 
  • Other possibilities include: the book did not come from PBS at all (it could have been an online purchase), it was sent as part of a Game swap, or it was sent to you as a "gift" from another member.  If a PBS wrapper was used to send the book, then the "outside PBS" possibility is not likely.  For a gift or a Game swap, the member could have used Send to a Friend or Custom DC to generate a PBS wrapper.

Do not mark the book received until you get the book you requested.

  • Once you find out who sent you the book, you should not mark it received until you receive the correct book.  That may mean that the book you requested is declared "lost in the mail" by the system before it arrives.
  • If the book arrives after it is declared "lost in the mail" you need to mark it received from your Transaction Archive, as described in I received a book that was 'lost in the mail'.

Thanks everyone.

 

I PMd the person.  Haven't heard back yet.  I am definitely not going to mark anything as received until I get the books I requested.  I feel this is the safest way to assure that I keep my place in the queue for these books.  I am not going to forward the book unless I am reimbursed someway for the book.
