Despite good writing and competent structure, the story's supposed surprises were all fairly predictable. Still, Burley packs a lot of story into a slim 192 pages. His police detective Wycliffe is a likeable enough character, although not as well developed as he could have been. Still, it was a quick and good read for a lazy afternoon.
