wow this ereader/tablet stuff is sooo over my head! I had decided to seriously c heck out the Kindle Fire then stopped in at books a million and they had the new nook tablet. the lady there was showing it to me $249 but sold out. I asked about the difference in that and the nook color - she asked w hat I wanted to do with it and I said read ebooks and do a little email checking and a few games and she said for that the nook color might be enough. went ot best buy and was too overwhlemed and all those tablets were superduper high except maybe 1 and no nook tablet there.

well I looked online then this morning noticed overstock had the nook color for 139 with free shipping. then noticed it was refurbished. checked out ebay and found a refurbished sent from B&N for 119 with free shipping. so I went with that one and am crossing my fingers it works ok and suits what I want it to do. I'm also eyebaling the refurbished nook touch for $69 - books a million had the new touch for $79 yesterday only but I think that one may be low off and on this season if they have enough to get rid of. I'm debating it or a kindle touch if the prices drop - I already have a sony prs350 that I like - it's small and light but I have to  hook up to the computer to move books to it - not that big a deal I don't guess

i'm not sure about using the nook color with the library overcdrive though - anyone know if I can download the overdrive stuff to the nook color and add books that way? guess I'll play around with it and see.

We're in it together since I got the refurb Nook Touch for $79 from B&N before the prices dropped. However, it has the same 1 year warranty as the new, so I don't know how you could go wrong. If it doesn't work, they trade it out. Mine is in a box until Christmas though, so I haven't gotten to play with it yet.

Wow, really good deal on that Nook Color, Susanna. Damn. I should buy one for the kids.

Now I have to go and see if it will play Netflix over the wifi.

Susanna you should get the Kindle Touch or one of the other Kindles. Then you will have all three of the major brands!

ooh good idea Anne...good idea too Nancy - you're more disciplined than me LOL! overstock has a refurbished nook touch for 69 I think with free shipping..debating it LOL! mad because if I buy through discovercard's site it's 15% cashback bonus with B&N but I can't find the pre-owned used refurbished one when I go to the site - only the web searches are taking me there. may try again later. at $80 or less I wouldn't mind having a kindle and nook touch both - even the new sony - I thought sony had a lot of ereaders but only see one on their site - though they had a model 900 that had tons of storage...oh well.

I was debating getting a refurb nook color for my dad and downloading sudoku and some solitair games - he doesn't read(he can but just doesn't!) but I think he'd like having a tablet and I'm not sure how to get download apps for other tablets - nook has them right there.

To me they same....  Tho I not sure the Nook plays movies.  Whats different CS!  Amazon Great...B&N Sucks!  Also Amazon no cr card needed......B&N need cr card!  But if it works your in great shape for the price!

Well the kids would rather have new Playmobil than a tablet. So the idea is tabled for now. If I do get a NC I will also get the SD card with the Android OS on it, there is a seller on ebay who sells them ready to go. Then it will run Netflix and flash.

Barbara, Apple uses the credit card method too. As does all the music download sites, including Walmart. What you are setting up an account for is the ability to download media. 99.9% of that media costs money and they require you to have a CC on file. Actually, Amazon requires me to have a CC on file to make regular purchases. What they ask for is not out of the norm, only to you.

credit card on file is nothing - I think I already have at least one on file for B&N and amazon both because I've gotten ebooks/mp3 songs for the computer.

does the kindle touch not have buttons? my sony 350 I can use the touch screen or use the button at the bottom and I think the nook touch does as well but didn't see any buttons on the kindle except for the $79 one...anyone have that model? Iused to use the b uttons on the first sony I had -boy does that sucker feel heavy now!

I never needed a cr card at Amazon.....  I always use gift cards except they did ask for a cr card for the free apps for the tablet.  I downloaded MP3 stuff to no cr card.

Nope, you didn't pay too much. Last year my Nook Classic was $150. This year I paid $79 for the Nook Touch. Next year they will have moved on to something else. Enjoy the one you bought and have fun!

Way to go Jacci!

I"m so ready to get my new toys! I like my Sony 350 - just finished a romance ebook from the library on it! sure wish they'd get more of my favorites available at the library - checked out the library of p hiladephia briefly but I don't think some are availabe in ebook period let alone from libraries. I'd like to buy my faves but now I guess the dilemna is 'which ereader do I buy them for' LOL - still eyeballing a kindle touch but doesn't seem like the price will move - right now I have $5 in gift cards there(almost earned another from swagbucks but that would take at least another month probably) and found out I can somehow use my cashback bonus at Discovercard towards amazon purchases..I'll have to see. I"m happy I found good deals on refurbished nooks - tablet and touch - and hopefully they'll work fine - but dont' know why I'm not seeing any refurbished deals on kindles - even the ebay prices are much higher than buying them new from amazon.

since money is tight for me this year, I hit barnes and noble and got the first edition newin box NOOK marked down to 89.00 as I did not need color.  My local barnes and noble staff people are great and they  have a help desk in the store all the time staffed to help people with Nook questions...Thus far, have been only reading some of the free books on there but have really enjoyed mine..they even had a staff member do a little help into section every saturday for new nook users which was great too!
