There is much historical backstory and many, many details in this book - so much and so many, in fact, that I was almost a third of the way into it before I gave up, without even getting to the fires in question. If you enjoy exhaustive research and detail, then this is the book for you. I found it very tough going and gave up.

It's amazing these brave people even thought to fight against this kind of disaster with the equipment available back then. Very good read.
