This book is a non-fiction discussion that blends the historical events and extant records of the year 1599 with Shakespeare's writings of that year. This contrast allows the author to theorize about events' effects on his writing, and purposes and messages in it. It is a fresh look at both Shakespeare's world and how it shaped his writing. It reads well and believably, and is worth the time to read it.
