Book Description:
"Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" is a great story, in either movie or book form. The book continues right from the end of "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", while in the movie, there's a large gap between where Spock dies and the Enterprise goes back to Earth. In the book's version of the story, the Enterprise travels back Regula to identify the dead scientists at Regula I. I think this makes the story more complete. While orbiting Regula, the Enterprise also meets up with the U.S.S. Grissom to exchange personnel. After hearing a brief history on the Klingon woman that gives Klingon Commander Kruge the Genesis tape, the "movie" part of the book finally gets started. Also, as a side story for the book, Dr. Carol Marcus goes to the families of her dead comrades to give them presents to help them cope with the death of their children. A strange switch of names occurs in this book. Ceti Alpha V is called "Alpha Ceti V". Regula is called "Regulus". And finally, the Genesis lab, Regula I, is called "Spacelab". These discrepancies are minor distractions, and don't make the book less enjoyable to the reader. All in all, this book is a great stand-alone novel, and you'd enjoy it just as much even if you never saw the movie.
