The last quarter of the tenth century was a time of conflict and searching. There was conflict between Church and State, and between Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. Against a broad background of history and place, which include Iceland, Eric the Red's ill-conceived colonization of Greenland, North America, and England harried by Vikings, this novel is a saga of yearning and mystery, tragedy, saintliness and love.
Based on historical fact, this fictional account of the early interactions of the Vikings and Britain along with the settling of Greenland and North America allowed me to put a "face" to that part of history that had been so elusive.
