Book Description:
Forty-five million Americans go on a diet each year, and many of them turn to misleading books that offer inflexible, formal diets, quirky advice, or downright dangerous techniques. This refreshing book shows readers how simple lifestyle changes can help them lose weight and keep it off. The book first asks readers to understand why they may be overweight, and then helps them create short-term goals. Next, they learn more about long-term weight control based on eating habits, the food pyramid, and realistic menus. Readers are treated to a personalized fitness program, reviews of popular diet products, and the scoop on commercial weight-loss programs. Throughout, there are motivating tips and advice from renowned experts, as well as anecdotes and lessons learned from real people who've lost weight and kept it off. Susan McQuillan, M.S., R.D., is a food and nutrition consultant in New York City. The former Senior Editor for American Health, and a regular contributor to numerous magazines, she is the co-author of Simply Healthful Pizzas & Calzones and Simply Healthful Fish. Edward Saltzman, M.D., is the Medical Director of the Obesity Consultation Center at the New England Medical Center and a body weight researcher at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. Dr. Saltzman lives in Boston.

Excellent guide to losing weight. I love that it's not stuffy and reading it is actually fun, with interesting tidbits, and advice from loser's(those who have actually lost weight). Covers everything from portion control to excercise and everything in between.
