Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, never expected he'd need to wed within a year or forfeit his inheritance. But he is not one to bow to the matchmaking mamas of the ton. No, he will marry a lady of his own choosing. And the lady he chooses is the enchanting neighbor living with her family next door. Miss Leonora Carling has beauty, spirit and passion; unfortunately, matrimony is the last thing on her mind ...
To Leonora, Tristan's kisses are oh-so-tempting, but once bitten, forever shy, she has determinedly turned her back on marriage. But Tristan is a seasoned campaigner who will not accept defeat. And when a mysterious man attempts to scare Leonora and her family from their home, Tristan realizes he's been given the perfect excuse to offer his services -- as protector, seducer and, ultimately, husband.

I was very disappointed in this book. The first I had read by this author. It was a mystery/romance. I felt like it was never really a good romance or a good mystery. It took 438 out of 440 pages to solve the mystery and the romance never really sparked.

Great book in a series. The prequel to this book is Captian Jack's Woman.

No. 12 Montrose Place is to be the last bastion for Tristin Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, and his fellow secret agents. Tristin volunteers to oversee the renovations, and though he knows lust and a virtuous woman never mix, he finds himself entranced with his neighbor, Leonora Carling. When he discovers the lady snooping around the house he's intrigued.
Ever since Leonora refused an offer to sell their home, her family has been subjected to harassment. She suspects that the new owner of No. 12 might be responsible, but as soon as she meets Tristin she knows he's not the culprit. Tristin decides to investigate Leonora's situation and get to know the lady better. As they embark on solving the mystery, they get caught up in a highly passionate affair. But when Leonora refuses Tristin's offer of marriage, he must not only find the brigand, but also wage a campaign to win the lady's heart.
Now that the Cynsters are all settled, Laurens turns to the Bastion Club. With her hallmark extreme sensuality, knowledge of the era and delightful plotting, this is another exceptionally entertaining romance.

Seven of London's most eligible bachelors band together to form the Bastion Club. This is the first story in this series of Tristan Wemyss, Earl of Trentham, finding his future wife in Leonara Carling. As Tristan tries to persuade Leonara to be his wife, someone is trying to scare Leonora and her family from their home.
A luscious romance from an author whose signature love scenes are ones to savor.

Typical Stephanie Laurens historical romance. Not her best, but enjoyable to read.

I found the book repetative and boring. The story is good, just seems to be the same situations over and over. Hopefully someone will find it more interesting then I did :)
