Book Description:

All Debbie Sue Overstreet got out of her marriage to the sheriff of Salt Lick, Texas, was a gas station that didn't pump! So she turned the property into the Styling Station, the best beauty parlor in town -- and if she didn't get rich, at least she learned all the local gossip.

But she wasn't prepared for the news that the nastiest woman in town had been bumped off! Suddenly, everyone's a suspect and Debbie Sue decides to go after the reward ... even if it means she's got to get close to Buddy, that lousy, good-looking ex-husband of hers.

Debbie Sue's investigation sends her on a wild ride. Who is the man named Eugene ... and what's with his alter-ego Janine? Where is the mysterious red-haired woman? Why is Buddy trying to get her back? And, scariest of all, when did she begin to think he could be right?

This book was laugh-out-loud hysterical! It is one part mystery and one part romance with the romance taking center stage. The wife of the richest man in the small town of Salt Lick, Texas (and the surrounding area) turns up dead, and there are no lack of potential suspects. A hefty reward is offered for information leading to the capture of the murderer, and Debbie Sue, the sheriff's ex-wife, is just the lady to solve the murder and claim the money. Buddy, the sheriff, wants Debbie Sue as far away from the murder investigation as possible...and both the sheriff and his ex wife both secretly still want to be close to one another while trying valiantly to move on with their lives. There are two questions in this book: Who killed Pearl Ann Carruthers, and what are the chances that Sheriff Buddy and Debbie Sue will fail at divorce even more spectacularly than they failed at marriage!

There are plenty of laughs, a good amount of intrigue and some fantastic supporting characters with distinct personalities. A light read, but not entirely fluff. I recommend this book!

Wonderful book...Fast paced and this is a romance ..but I would put it in the Mystery series type books also.
Not quite a Janet Evanovich book...but close.

I knew I had something good in my hands when I laughed out loud on page 8. The small town setting is so well depicted, I could practically feel the Texas dust. I wasn't sure I would enjoy the reunion of two lovers as that theme can sometimes drag and irritate, but the author handled it perfectly. You felt like everyone in the book was an old friend, even if you just loved to hate them!

Debbie Sue's investigation shends her on a wild ride. Who is the man named Eugene . . . and what's with his alter-ego Janine? Where is the mysterious red-haired woman? Why is Buddy trying to get her back? And, scariest of all, when did she begin to think he could be right?

Cute, lightweight reading. Contains a lot of small town Texas beauty shop gossip and humor in addition to the murder of the nastiest woman in town. You can imagine what THAT caused in the Styling Station.

Endearing characters, a light fun read with a muder mystery thrown in for extra, I got a big kick out of it.
