didn't expect to like this as much as I did (from a prior experience with Adam's Promise). It was a good read with deft characterization. I was particularly impressed by MacLean's development of Lily's mother--she so easily could have resorted to the evil mother archetype, but she didn't. I can't wait until Portrait of a Lover, Annabelle and Magnus's story, is released.

Lady Lily Langdon has always loved Edward Wallis, Earl of Whitby, her older brother's dearest friend. But when her seduction of him begins to take hold, tragedy strikes. Yet adversity only strengthens Lily's resolve to find happiness.
I really enjoyed this book; read it in one sitting.
