Book Description:

In a land on the brink of peace -- watched jealously by a ruthless cult from across the sea and beset by hidden enemies -- five extraordinary humans must serve as sword and shield of the Gods.

Auraya is one.

Her heroism saved a village from destruction; now Auraya has been named Priestess of the White. The limits of her unique talents must be tested in order to prove her worthy of the honor and grave responsibility awarded to her. But a perilous road lies ahead, fraught with pitfalls that will challenge the newest servant of the gods. An enduring friendship with a Dreamweaver -- a member of an ancient outcast sect of sorcerer-healers -- could destroy Auraya's future. And her destiny has set her in conflict with a powerful and mysterious, black-clad sorcerer with but a single purpose: the total annihilation of the White. And he is not alone . . .

In the mythical world Canavan has created, Auraya has been named the newest member of the White, the group of imortals who are the voice and hands of the gods. Auraya and the others are trying to join all of the northern continent under a peaceful set of treaties, however they are attacked by members from the cult of the southern continent. Along the way, Auraya needs to figure out how her relationship with the Dreamweavers, a group of individuals shuned by the rest of the White, fit into the culture the White are creating.

This was a good read. I would recommend Canavan's The Black Magician trilogy before this one so far.

I have read other books by this author that I have really loved. This one just didnt get there. It is about a woman who becomes a Priestess of the White and her talents are tested in order to prove her worthy of the honor and responsibility awareded to her.

Very good read, but somewhat choppy at times. Also, there are a few times the reader is expected just to accept stuff without a good explanation. However, I do look forward to finishing the series.

I was hoping this would be a stand-alone. Now I'm going to have to track down the rest of the series, because it's worth it.

The 1st in a trilogy about Auraya, a priestess of the White. It's a interesting land, but we don't get much of an idea about who the other white are. I'm hoping for more details in the 2nd and 3rd books.

I wasn't able to get into this book, but perhaps someone else will. It is a good premise.
