Compelling, rich, a superb novel. This is a page turner and has a bit of everything a reader wants in a novel. Mystery, love and suspense. I really enjoyed my time spent with these pages.

Rebecka S. (I really enjoyed this book - it was very interesting. However, it was also very sad. At every turn something terrible was happening. However, much of the book takes place during the Great Depression and times of war which of course was a somber time. Regardless of the somewhat depressing nature of this book, it does have a lot about love and family and contain bits of humor.

Carla H. (There was enough mystery and emotion to keep you wanting to turn the page. The author is very descriptive, I could clearly see the characters in my mind. It felt dark to me, in that there is alot of death and sadness in the story. I was left wanting more of the bits of happiness/humor or some sort of closer for my favorite characters throughout.
I enjoyed this book immensely. Wish it had some translations of the foreign phrases, but otherwise very interesting.
The story of one man surviving WWI, immigrating to America with his deceased friend's widow and starting his own butcher's business and singing club. It's all about relationships.
Great reading. I loved the characters and the story line.
Wonderful book! Characters are multi-layered. Wish I could read it agin for the first time.
