Book Description:
Planet by planet, galaxy by galaxy, the inhabited universe has fallen to the alien Xul.

Now only one obstacle stands between them and total domination: the warriors of a resilient race the world-devourers nearly annihilated centuries ago . . .

A power vast, ancient, and terrifying, the mighty Xul have lost track of the insignificant humans hundreds of years after devastating their home world —which has enabled the United Star Marines to operate unnoticed and unhindered. A near-autonomous intergalactic policing force, they battle in defense of an Earth they may not live to see again. Now, following the trail of a vanished twenty-fourth-century transport, they are journeying through an unexplored stargate to the edge of an unknown galaxy many light years from their sun. For the last, best, and only chance to defeat the tyrants of the universe may at long last be at hand . . .

This is for book #1 of the Inheritance Trilogy. there are two other sets by this same author, I haven't read then but have looked at the info on they they tend to build up to this series by the author. they i'm sure have all the background from the storyline that continues with this series/trilogy. So i didn't read the other trilogy but after finishing the book i realized that it would have probably made the whole story flow. but the two previous trilogies cover the storyling probably about 800 years worth of earth history and build to this storyline. The book for me didn't flow very well at first but as i got deeper into the story it started meshing and flowing to where i didn't want to stop. If you like action , war ( with ourselves and others), a background of what a marine would be like in the future this is probably a book you would want to read. The author seems to have the ability to capture what it must be like to be a marine in the 25th century. That and added realistic tech improvments to a fighting soldier and to space faring ships. I gave it a 5 star but i like military, going up against an unknown enemy, exploring the unknown type space series. I hope to go back and gather the two previous trilogies to enjoy this author more.
